You'll improve your Portuguese until then and be ready for book 2!

From A1 to C1, I can recommend this book, but you will need to learn at a different pace and in a different way for each level. Take a look at my notes at the end of this description.
The title of this book says "Short Stories" but it really tells a long story about Chico. You can read it in parts, decoding and understanding the short stories in between.
Each chapter of this story has:
- Glossary with the more difficult words
- Fill-in-the-blank exercises
- Reading comprehension exercises with translations that can help you understand the text in Portuguese
- Writing prompts to encourage expression and practice language output
- Crossword puzzle to make learning fun
- Anki and Lingvist flashcards for effective memorization through time-spaced repetition algorithm (deck and instructions available on the author's website)

The book is for:
- A1-A2 (Beginner): With this book, you can learn many new words as a beginner. The reading might take a bit longer because you're just starting out. However, committing to learning, using flashcards, and doing various activities will help you improve a lot. I have learned a language myself from A1 to B1 with just one story.
- B1-B2 (Intermediate): You'll likely read through the book more quickly, so you can aim to finish it in less time. You'll get something out of all the exercises in the book. For B2, the book might start being too easy, as it's mostly written in the present tense.
- Maybe C1 (Advanced): This book may be on the easier side for you, maybe way too easy, but you might still enjoy the story. It's mainly written using present tense verbs to simplify things. Future books will incorporate all verb tenses.
