I got the English version of LeapFrog Get Ready for Phonics Spin and Learn toy. This toy is suitable for ages 18 months and older. The entire unit is made of durable plastic and has no small pieces. The unit is durable enough that it can take being dropped without cracking. The speaker quality is clear for the purpose of the toy. The plastic pages are colour coordinated and easy to flip through. It takes 3 AAA batteries that are included, however, the battery life of the batteries included is short and you will need to change them faster then regular batteries, which is understandable. The batteries are securely enclosed within the unit and not easily removable by little ones, this is important for child safety. There are 4 settings. The volume is pretty high and I wish this could be adjusted, or that it was compatible with headphones. I especially think being compatible with headphones would make this toy suitable for travelling as it is engaging.

    This Leapfrog Phonics Spin and Learn toy is very cute and if you already own other Leapfrog toys, you'll find that it is very similar in terms of the music and voice. I do really like the fact that this toy emphasizes 44 different words and 44 different phonics sounds that are found in the English language and I think it can be fun for kids if they are starting to learn their letter sounds and learning to read and recognize words.

    When I initially gave it to my daughter, she was interested in playing with it because of the lights and colours, but I found that once I taught her how to play the detective game, she was interested in playing it for quite a while longer. I would say that I can see that after a few sessions, it was no longer interesting for her to play by herself, but if I sat down and asked her to show me how to play the detective game, she would be happy to play with the toy again as she began to master some of the words/sounds that the toy would ask her to do.

    The toy is built well and feels sturdy. The handle on the top is great for holding to move it from place to place. The only improvement that I think could be having a quieter level of volume for this toy. Currently there are 2 levels of sound, but I find that even the lowest level can be quite loud.

    Overall, this toy is fun for my child. I don't necessarily think an 18 month old would benefit from the phonics since they wouldn't necessarily be ready to learn how to read yet, but the phonics games are definitely more interesting for kids that are a little bit older.
