■ Description:
This is a Bluetooth 5.3 receiver and a dual-port 12-volt USB adapter designed for use in cars with limited or no Bluetooth support. All you need is a 3.5mm standard AUX jack on your car stereo and a power source for the USB-A connector. You could even use this receiver with a home stereo if it has an AUX jack.

■ Background:
My car has limited Bluetooth functionality. It can connect to my phone for calls but doesn't support other features like playing music or hearing map directions through the car speakers.

■ Getting started:
Enter this AUX Bluetooth receiver. I simply plugged the 3.5mm plug into my car stereo's AUX port and connected the USB end to one of the two USB ports on the 12-volt dual USB charger. During the initial use, the display blinked as the device entered pairing mode. Once paired with my phone, the blinking ceased, and it was ready to use.
Mounting options for the Bluetooth receiver include a permanent one where you stick the base to a flat surface on the car's dashboard using the adhesive backing or clipping it onto an air vent. I opted for the air vent placement, which, despite appearing less secure, has worked flawlessly.

■ Operation:
The Bluetooth receiver allows you to link two phones simultaneously. I paired my Pixel and my wife’s iPhone, both of which could remain connected at the same time. While only one phone can play audio at a given moment, both can handle incoming and outgoing calls, one at a time.
The small display provides information on the current song or call details when using the phone app. Additionally, the receiver features an easily accessible volume knob and buttons for navigating between previous and next songs. Ideally, the lettering on the display would be bigger, but that would also mean a larger receiver which would be less ideal.
Compared to an integrated Bluetooth car audio system, the smaller screen and the requirement to be in AUX mode on your car stereo are the main differences. This also means, no FM radio unless you have it playing from your phone or switch your car stereo back to FM mode.

■ Wrap up:
All things considered, this Bluetooth receiver is user-friendly and unlocks useful features that were previously unavailable in my car.

This is my favorite bluetooth car adapter so far. It works perfectly. It was easy to install, just connecting the USB end to a power source, and then the 3.5mm end into my car stereo. One thing to be aware of, is that if you don't want to hear some weird buzzing/humming sounds, you'll want to put in a ground loop isolator on your 3.5mm. This is a downside of ALL of the bluetooth adapters I've ever tried, and is an issue in all aspects of audio where multiple power sources are involved. Overall the audio quality is fantastic.

However, that's not the caveat that I have. The issue that I've run into is that the mounting for it is very tall, and breaks easily. It has a combination of a base that includes sticky tape to attach it to your dash somewhere, or you can pull off that base, and there is a clip that works in a vent. For me, I used the base, but after only a few weeks, the vent clip portion of it broke. I was going to just take the clip off the unit and use tape to stick it right to my dash, as that would have been preferable to the original mount anyway. However, when I took the vent clip portion off, there is a raised back on the unit that made attaching it to my dash in that fashion not an option. I'm sure I'll rig something up at some point in time, but for now, it just dangles in my car.

However, despite all of that, I would definitely recommend this unit, as the bluetooth/audio portion of it works flawlessly.
