Read another review that said that the lid doesn't stay in place when open. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The lid does lock in place when you pull it back. Some more details about the kettle:

The interior of the lid is metal except for the splash guard, which the water passes through if you have the lid down when pouring. I don't like that so I open the lid (which locks in place) while pouring and the water passes right through without any contact with plastic.

The heating is very quick. Just like any other 1500W electric kettle. Much faster and convenient than boiling water in a pot.

The temperature control is great. It's the best bang for your buck. You can set it to 100, 90, 80, 70, or 50 celsius. If you want better temperature control, such as to choose the exact degree, you will only find that in much more ($200+) expensive models. I use the different temperatures everyday and it's a very smooth experience. Makes a difference in taste when brewing coffee and teas.

Been using it for 5 months, multiple times a day, and it's been running great. Hasn't rusted one bit anywhere. The only possible issue, which isn't one for me, is that the cord is pretty short. If you were planning on using the kettle far from the plug then that won't be possible without an extension cord.

Other than that, highly recommend it. Fast heating. Good quality. Lid stays locked in place. Temperature control has all the useful temperatures you might need.

7 month update:
Everything is working fine but the locking mechanism fails sometimes now. It will keep the lid open if you're not moving the kettle but if you're pouring out of it, it will close. It used to be fine. The "locking mechanism" is just pieces of plastic rubbing past each other, so it eventually wears out and doesn't lock in place anymore. The only reason I lock the lid is to avoid the plastic splash guard but I'm going to cut the plastic part off to accomplish the same thing. Reduced rating to 4 stars.
