This is a MAJOR chapter in Jewish history that most Jews have no idea that it ever existed. As it turned out, there was a nation/empire called Khazaria that existed from about the 7th to the 11the century.
That nation was Idolaters until they decided, around the 7th century that they 'need' to adopt one of the existing Monotheistic Religions.
They consulted with various theologians, and studied Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Eventually their king chose to adopt Judaism as his Kingdom's religion. The major factors in his decision were 1. That both Christianity and Islam were invented, and were based on Judaism, and 2. That he did not want his Kingdom to be a Vasal of either the Byzantine, nor the Islamic Empires that existed at the time.
The book is fascinating, firstly for Jews, and secondly, for all the Slavic nations, such as Russia, Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, etc. because that story is their story as well. As it turns out almost ALL of the Eastern European 'Jews' were actually Khazars. And since millions of them immigrated to the US and to Israel, most of the 'Jews' in both are of Khazar's origin!

The Kuzari is one of the most famous works of the medieval Spanish Jewish philosopher and poet Rabbi Yehuda Halevi, completed around 1140. Its subtitle declares it to be "the book of refutation and proof on behalf of the most despised religion", which shows its purpose and context in medieval Jewish thought. Divided into five parts, it takes the form of a dialogue between the rabbi and a pagan, in this book the pagan was the then mythologized by Jews pagan king of the Khazars who was invited to instruct him in the tenets of the Jewish religion.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on 鶹. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
