It does the job well for what it is. You have a decent passive cooler if it's not plugged in and when you need the lower temps/duration, having the option of powering with a car accessory port or something like a portable Ryobi power pack is fantastic. Thermoelectric coolers do use a lot of power and aren't with tons of features, so like the other reviewer said, some kind of temperature regulator would be useful. We opted for a little device (temperature controller DC 12v 120w) that we spliced inline to the plug in cord. We added plug in terminals so we can unplug it when needed.
Contacted support to get some clarifications on what, if any, non-air insulation is used in the walls and lid and found out they do indeed add foam. No need for any Great Stuff spray foam mods.
Overall, if I had to pay extra (probably double at this size) for a Yeti or I can have this passive/active cooler, it's a no brainer for the Koolatron. As far as longivity goes, no idea since this is our first Koolatron. Will update if it ever fails.
