This boxed set of 5 STEM kits for $36 is great value! I have it to my 11-yr daughter your Christmas and she absolutely loved putting these together during her winter break. A great way to get kids off screens and learning in a hands-on way!

The set comes in a sturdy cardboard box. Smaller than I expected, but actually nice as they're more compact for display/storage. Each kit comes with its cordoned materials and instructions on its own sturdy resealable bag. You could theoretically split these up as 5 separate gifts for 5 different kids - think party favours or classroom prizes your students.

The primary material is pressed plywood. The pieces were very easy for my daughter to pop out on her own. Some pieces that needed to be screwed in place split after some use, but the overall mechanisms were still functional in our case.

My daughter needed little to no assistance with these kits. She deciphered the instructions well enough to get the kits to work 90%-95% of the time. When she did need help, it was to get a snug-fitting piece attached properly or to figure out a small step that she didn't fully understand, which made for a good opportunity to learn more about how the mechanism she was putting together actually works.

You need to supply your own AA batteries for 2 of the sets, but those are easy enough to come by. Otherwise, everything required (including mini screwdrivers) are provided.

This is a great alternative to subscription STEM boxes that are typically excitements to get in Canada and also take up more space to store/keep.

This is a thoughtful and well-executed STEM kit for kids, featuring five projects that cover a nice range of science and engineering topics—from planetary motion to hydraulics to simple electricity. The parts are pre-cut plywood and fit together better than you might expect, with clean edges and relatively precise joins.

That said, some components are small and delicate, so I would definitely recommend adult supervision, especially for younger users. A patient parent or older sibling can really help make this a smoother experience. The instruction booklet is visual and clear, but younger kids may still find it challenging on their own.

The finished models are satisfying—particularly the hydraulic lift and the hand crank generator—and they actually function, which isn’t always the case with lower-end kits. Batteries aren’t included, so you’ll want to have a few AAs on hand.
