- Reviewed in Canada on December 28, 2024Verified PurchaseUsed this for the first time yesterday to shred carrots and beets into a salad. Seemed to work fine. Didn't seem very sharp and the shoot is small for feeding in the veges. So it lost a star for that. I got it to help me cut up food to help my arthritic hands, but the shoot is so small I still had to do a fair bit of cutting unfortunately.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 3, 2025Verified PurchaseBran name and good quality of course.
Wife loves it.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 23, 2024Verified PurchaseAs the title says, this is great for shredding cheese but I do find that the cheese does not completely shred and leave a large slice underneath the shredder. It's not a huge problem but I would recommend that you shred when your cheese is cold. Softer cheese tends to plug up instead of rolling out into the bowl.
I find that this works the best for more firm types of food such as potato, carrots etc. Other than that, I use it quite often with great results.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 2, 2024Verified PurchaseI absolutely love this attachment. It takes seconds to set up, seconds to shred, and seconds to get in the dishwasher/sink. The graters and the pushers re dishwasher safe, only the housing need to be hand washed. That said, it's a nice wide opening so super easy to clean up.
I previously bought a KitchenAid food processor and it came with a cheese grater. I found it difficult to use, because cheese would bunch up between the housing and the shredder plate and it would stick. I'd need to take it apart several times just to shred one brick of cheese.
This attachment was a much better experience!! Some cheese does get built up between the wall of the housing and the grater, but it's very little and doesn't impact function. We pull it out and add it to the other shredded cheese.
If you're on the fence, you won't regret this purchase.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 17, 2025Verified PurchaseI have been hesitant to purchase these as I was not sure I would use them. I do like them and since I keep them accessible I have used them more. It helps a lot with the arthritis to not shred cheese or veggies by hand.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 30, 2024Verified PurchaseIf you just want to slice a few carrots or zucchini, save your money and buy a mandoline slicer. I bought this attachment because I have carpal tunnel syndrome and I thought it would help with slicing veggies, and as I cook every day I thought it would be a timesaver. There are good and bad things:
Good :
It seems well-made and sturdy, and was easy to fix to the front of my 5 quart KitchenAid. It stayed in position during use.
Bad :
If you want a batch of uniformly sliced carrots, you will be disappointed. The carrots I was slicing were about an inch wide and even fed through the smaller funnel, when I got to the end of the carrot even with the pusher, the carrot turned sideways and clogged up the mechanism. I suppose this might be helped/solved by big fat carrots, but if you have regular size be prepared to unclog a lot.
My carrots were peeled and fed into the slicer. When I had finished, I noticed staining on the inside. I washed it immediately and the stains have not come out. I tried a little borax, but it didn't shift the stain. Ditto baking soda. I don't know if the stain will ever come out. in the scheme of things I don't suppose it matters, but I did not expect stains that can't be removed.
I haven't used the grater yet, and when I do I will update this review.
