The Keeper (A Murphy Shepherd Novel Book 4) Kindle Edition
鶹
USA TODAY and ECPA bestselling series
Combine James Patterson and Colleen Hoover and you'll start to understand why readers are riveted by the Murphy Shepherd series from New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin: gripping action, heart-wrenching emotion, and deep questions that deserve to be considered.
Bones--Murphy Shepherd's teacher, mentor, priest, and friend--is gone. Devastated by the loss and unsure how to continue the rescue work they started, Murph has no choice but to jump back in when the worst happens. His longtime friend and current United States vice president, Aaron Ashley, has been a silent partner in the fight against trafficking. But in spite of having the best security available, his three daughters have been taken bound and blindfolded from their home by an extraction team that left no clues and no trace--just an empty house, a bereft mother, and nine dead Secret Service agents. Only Murph and his team have a hope of finding them.
Bones may have made the ultimate sacrifice by taking down his own brother and the dark network he led, but there are still others in this network where evil is the currency and power is the prize. Soon Ashley drops out of the presidential race and a new candidate emerges--someone who is ready, too ready, to step into the race and the Oval Office.
Bones taught Murph that the needs of the one, the lost one, outweigh those of the ninety-nine. In his first rescue without Bones beside him, Murph's fight against human trafficking takes him across the globe and through the halls of government to destroy the network and save the lives and souls of those taken.
The Murphy Shepherd series is simultaneously a tender love story, a heartrending search for freedom, an exploration of the terrible cost of human trafficking, and an anthem to the power of love to create change when it shows up regardless of the cost. The Keeper raises the stakes even further, so be ready--you won't want to put it down until you reach the very last page.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 25, 2025Verified PurchaseI have enjoyed ALL of Charles Martin’s books. Once you start reading any one of them ,you will want to read them all.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 24, 2025Verified PurchaseI was so excited to see that there was another book to this series! It had been awhile since I’d read the first 3 but this book helped me catch up up while the new story was being weaved. I laughed…I cried…and I felt totally drained from reading this book but most of all, I felt hope. Charles Martin has a way of weaving a story that I’ve never found in any author before…even though I enjoy so many….inspiring…real….meaningful…he brings you through such an array of emotions as he takes you through the difficult and then through to the hope that life can bring. I say that very badly…fortunately he does not. I can’t wait until the next book!
- Reviewed in Canada on June 29, 2025Verified PurchaseThis whole series was fabulous! Like all his books!
- Reviewed in Canada on April 16, 2025I couldn’t help myself. I devoured The Keeper as soon as it released so now I am waiting…again…this time for Book 5…because I have to know more…
This series will continue, I’m sure, because it has to. There is still so much to uncover relative to who is dictating this evil. I also have high hopes for budding romances. Ok. I’ll stop.
What I loved about this book?
1. I continue to love Charles Martin’s respect for marriage and thus, God’s design and what that means. We revisit that in this book and to a greater degree in some pages.
2. I love all of the firearms talk. That they are named (I do that, too, but don’t own an armory). Also, the plan execution and the tech team work.
3. The bad guy plot and the view of the extreme damage these people inflict upon the innocent. Everyone should have to understand the cost...not just those who have been through it. Thankfully, some justice is achieved in this series and I also love that.
This book is a bit lengthy in order to fill in some character info from the previous 3 novels, making it a potential standalone read, but I wouldn’t do that. Each character has their own intricate background story, so reading the whole series is well worth it. The Keeper is not as fast paced as some of the other books in this series but keep reading. It gets really good before Martin writes The End.
I also continue to enjoy this series in audiobook format. Jonathan Riggs casts a backdrop of passion these characters have for their work coupled with a little levity to help us catch our breath.
This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this audiobook from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 20, 2025Verified PurchaseThis is another good read. Hoping for more. Thank you Charles Martin for sharing your gift. I have read all of your books. I'm still reading They Turned the World Upside Down.
(This one I am taking my time on, so many nuggets). I have never been disappointed.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 16, 2025After reading and loving the first 3 books in Charles Martin's "Murphy Shepherd" series I could hardly wait to get my hands on book 4 The Keeper. I was not disappointed! Like the others, The Keeper is a perfect page turner.
Once again we are in the world of Murphy Shepherd who has devoted his life to finding survivors who have been taken. This time Murph receives a call from presidential hopeful Aaron Ashley, his three daughters have been taken and there are no leads.
Murphy must battle evil in this unputdownable novel with multiple surprises, many plot twists, edge of your seat suspense and wonderfully endearing and unique characters.
I am totally captivated with Charles Martin's story-telling!
- Reviewed in Canada on April 1, 2025This is suspense packed. Murphy is dealing with grief from the loss of his mentor Bones but you still see him pushing through his pain to fight evil. It was beautiful seeing Murphy come to terms with his grief and seeing other characters evolving over their past pain. This book is a must read for anyone who has followed Murphy and Bones journey from the beginning. There are men with strength of character and then some who present a front to the world but deep within are the very evil that destroy the world being the very tool that coordinates human trafficking. As the men fight against the wickedness, hope and faith keeps being renewed. Good is always triumphant over evil irrespective of how deep the tentacles of evil is embedded. I enjoyed reading The Keeper and the twist at the end was simply delightful.
ARC was provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 9, 2025"We are in the hope business". That's what Murphy Shepherd does, as he (& his team) seek out people caught in the human trafficking business. It's an awful business & always the books leave me feeling sick over the depravity of mankind. But the author can write such heart warming lines in the midst of the horror.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cut and Paste Job…
Verified PurchaseLoved books 1-3 but this fourth book was my least favourite! Sections were literally cut and pasted verbatim from other books which meant I skipped whole pages and was lazy and boring. Seems to have left things open for another book but I’m not sure I’ll bother with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book!!! Just read!
Verified PurchaseWhat an amazing read! If you like action, mystery, & a good love story this is for you! Might want to read 1-3 first but don’t have to. You will fall in love with the characters and want more of their story!
Charles Martin, you are an amazing writer. This book made me cry, hope, feel love, and wish there was more! Ups and downs through this whole book!
I can go on and on! I hope there are more Murphy Shepard books to come!
Thank you for all you do!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Keeper
Verified PurchaseI am an avid reader; I have read many, many books by many different authors; however out of all the authors I have read, Charles Martin is without a doubt my favorite. I have looked forward to every book of fiction he has written and recommended him to many family members and friends. My brother who is a tough Marine, who fought in Vietnam, is also an avid reader;;but when he lost his wife, he lost his love of reading. I urged him to read “Send Down the Rain.” From there he has read every book Charles Martin has written and some other authors. Every person, to whom I recommended Charles Martin, came back and thanked me. Prior to this book, I really thought I could never pick a favorite but this one took my heart. It teaches such an unforgettable lesson about what even the most hardened of people fight believing. What would you do in the name of love, swearing you would lay down your life - for your child, your spouse, your friend, or for another unknown child or teenager who were being abused? Love is painful, it will absolutely make you feel your heart is breaking when you lose someone you love, there is no pain like it! This book has everything in it - action, good and evil, love, hate, many happy scenes and tears, happy and sad but when you put the book down, you will feel sorry the book is finished because you even hated to put it down when you were reading but I had another feeling, which I usually don’t have, I felt this book will make me a better person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets better with each writing.
Verified PurchaseI’m always waiting for the next Charles Martin book!!! Absolutely my very favorite author. His writings are always true to life, thought provoking, and always reflect his faith - God is in every single book. I couldn’t begin to even pick a favorite because each one becomes a favorite. A have a host of friends I have recommended his books to and I love getting their messages - Charles Martin kept me up last night cuz I can’t put this book down!!! And it’s “your fault”. Charles is our hometown guy and Jacksonville is discussed in some books. All I can say is read every single one. I thank God for the gifts he has given this man to share. Thank you Charles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Charles Martin
Verified PurchaseI wish I could have given 5 stars to The Keeper but there was too much repetition of what was written in the previous 3 books. Pages and pages that I finally learned to skip over. Within all that there was a great story and he redeemed himself. What a great author Charles Martin is!! I downloaded the first 3 into my Kindle free through Prime membership. I was so invested in his writing that I paid to download the 4th book. As in the other books, this one deals with sex trafficking. I knew it existed but realize now how enormous and evil this is. I found myself, as I read, thinking this is going on right now, today as I read about it. I don't understand the evil in the world that allows this to happen. I hope there is a Murphy and a Bones out there rescuing the tortured and abused girls and boys.
