I¡¯ve always heard that steam cleaners were useful, but this was my first time trying one. I tested it out in both the bathroom and kitchen and found that it does some things really well, and others not at all.
In the bathroom, I was hoping it would blast away the gunk under the silicone seams in my shower and clear the soap scum on the glass doors. It didn¡¯t make a difference with either. But it did a good job on all the stainless steel, especially the showerhead nozzles and the edges of the taps. It didn¡¯t help with calcium build-up, though. I also tried it on the mirror, but a spray and cloth worked better.
This steam cleaner was great in the kitchen where there is any kind of greasy buildup, such as around the stove burners and knobs. My favourite use so far has been for the microwave, which usually gets ignored because it's such a pain to clean. The steam cleaner made that job so much easier. The buildup melted away.
I'm still figuring out what it can and can't do, but it's fairly straightforward to use. The various nozzles give you options for different surfaces and they are easy to change from one to another. The unit doesn¡¯t hold a lot of water, and you need to wait a few minutes before refilling. Also, if you have limited hand strength, it might not be the best choice. The unit is a bit heavy, and you have to keep the button pressed the whole time.
Overall, I¡¯m glad to have it for tackling grease in all the areas of my kitchen.
