I really like this product. The ability to preview my slides and negatives on a 7" screen is excellent. Scanning images in 2 seconds instead of taking minutes on a dedicated flatbed scanner or film scanner is very productive.

NOTE: the KODAK Slide N SCAN images are not as good as a dedicated flatbed scanner or film scanner as you can see in the image comparison below. However, the KODAK Slide N SCAN is fine for archiving your film with reasonable quality, and it's FAST!

Here are some observations:

1) The sensor in the KODAK device automatically crops out the edges of the image area. Normally, this is not a big deal. However, sometimes you really want to see the areas at the perimeter of your negatives or slides.

2) The contrast is somewhat excessive, no matter how you adjust the exposure on the device. This results in bright highlights and deep shadows. These can be partially recovered in Photoshop or a similar image editing application. I found it best to adjust the brightness on the KODAK Slide N SCAN to -1.5 or -2.0 and then brighten the images (using Photoshop) after they are scanned.

3) Fine details are lost. Refer to the side-by-side image below. I scanned a color slide of a man on the KODAK device and then on my EPSON V600 scanner. When looking at the man's arm on the EPSON scan, I can see every hair on his arm. On the KODAK image, the arm looks like it was partially made up from melted candle wax. There are patchy areas and irregular details (see photo). Both scans were done at exactly 3048 ppi, which is the native resolution of the KODAK device (without using interpolation).

4) Color accuracy in the KODAK scans is sometimes unpredictable. Most images are pretty good, but sometimes you might believe the KODAK unit has a mind of its own. Attempting to tweak the colors using the device's built-in R-G-B sliders does not solve the problem.

Even with this "negativity," I'm keeping the KODAK Slide N SCAN. It's hard to dismiss the speed and ease of use. Even with somewhat inferior results, I enjoy using the device much more than my flatbed scanner. In addition, it's really handy for viewing strips of negatives to get a handle on what's on the film.

Take a look at the images below that were done with the KODAK Slide N SCAN. I'm able to generate good-looking results because of my expertise with Photoshop and TOPAZ Photo AI. I have automated all the tasks associated with improving the quality of the original KODAK JPG scans, so it's not a time-consuming process. I realize that not everyone can do this. My 4-Star rating is based on how much the KODAK Slide N SCAN has sped up the process of archiving my slides and negatives.

The only limit is the quality of the slides themselves. I got this for my wife who inherited a literal ton of old family photos, slides and negatives from 50-60 years ago. We originally had the HP G3110, which was also the best solution up until a few years ago when they stopped officially releasing drivers and never released a scanner with slide/negative functionalities since. This kodak unit is standalone and makes short work of my wife's boxes of slides (and although have'nt tried yet, suspect all the negative scans will be just as fast and easy) while resulting in the best quality possible. I searched for ages to make sure we bought the best solution and am happy with this device. All that and its tiny and since its standalone you can use it where your storage is instead of bringing the storage to the device. Do your scanning buried in the corner of your spare room surrounded by boxes of memories, or at the kitchen table, its so small and unassuming that it really doesn't matter where you are or how much space you have. If you're on the fence, take it from me, its worth it.

I was unsure whether this scanner would be suitable for scanning the negatives and slides that I have. It's very easy to use and I am very pleased with the quality of the scans that it produces. I've scanned about 1,000 slides and negatives so far. Most were colour negatives but I have also scanned b&w negatives as well as slides. I've scanned 135 and 126 formats. It's extremely easy to upload the files to my pc with the usb cable.

I am using this tool right now while writing this review. This is an expensive, rather primitive tool. If slide frames are thin enough I can process the whole box (36 slides) in 10 minutes. I am using an old 8MB card without any problems. After processing one box (I have more than 1,100 slides altogether), I removed the card and plugged it into my laptop. All slides have a name coming from the box number. After a few hours, the device did not want to start properly, so I changed the USB port in my laptop and it works fine.

Amazingly good quality output at 22 mega pixels. Colour depth and resolution is very good. Same for Slide and Negative. The viewing screen shows full colour for negatives. It is very easy to use. Just push the media into the tray make sure it shows properly on the screen, press the button on the top. That's it.
Connect the usb cable to a computer it acts like a usb drive.
If they would put a bit of felt in the film and slide path so it not so easy to disturb the media when scanning that will be great.

Just push the media into the tray make sure it shows properly on the screen, press the button on the top. That's it.
Connect the usb cable to a computer it acts like a usb drive.
If they would put a bit of felt in the film and slide path so it not so easy to disturb the media when scanning that will be great.

I really wanted this scanner to work, but it just wouldn’t. After struggling to format a SD card, I sent an email to Kodak, asking what the problem might be. They told me to use the most basic type of 32GB SD card. Their response to me: “suggest just using a standard SD card nothing with Micro, Plus, Extreme, or Ultra”. I double checked the manual and specs to see if I missed this, but I couldn’t find that information. Success. I could now scan negs to the correct type of card. However, I was only able to get 10 images scanned before the scanner stopped recognizing the card. Thinking it might be full, I put the card in my computer and saw that there was over 80% space left. I put the card back in the scanner and turned it on, only to have the power cut out. Several attempts resulted in various combinations of the power randomly cutting out on me when I pressed buttons trying to complete a scan. I really spent way more time and effort trying to get this to work well and reliably. I am very disappointed with this scanner product and don’t understand why it gets so many good reviews.

Cet appareil effectue correctement le travail, que se soit des diapositives, des négatifs N/B ou couleurs. Vous visionnez la photo en réel (positif) des négatifs. Cela fonctionne bien. Le rapport qualité/prix est OK. Certains négatifs N/B stockés "enroulés" sont un peu moins nette que scanné sur un scanner Nikon (beaucoup plus cher et surtout moins pratique. Le temps d'un scan prend 2-3 mn, car il faut un peu de temps pour prévisualisé le négatif, puis le scanner). Ici avec l'appareil Kodak, vous passer le négatif , vous voyez directement en "positif" votre image et en cliquant sur "OK", s'est scanné directement (1s) sur la carte mémoire que vous avez ajouté à l'appareil. Je recommande cet appareil, car j'ai plus beaucoup de négatif N/B d'Afrique à scanner, plus des séries de diapositives. Le seul point négatif, il n'est pas possible de scanner des diapositives avec des verres (c'est trop épais). J'apprécie la rapidité d'un scan.

Cet appareil effectue correctement le travail, que se soit des diapositives, des négatifs N/B ou couleurs. Vous visionnez la photo en réel (positif) des négatifs. Cela fonctionne bien. Le rapport qualité/prix est OK. Certains négatifs N/B stockés "enroulés" sont un peu moins nette que scanné sur un scanner Nikon (beaucoup plus cher et surtout moins pratique. Le temps d'un scan prend 2-3 mn, car il faut un peu de temps pour prévisualisé le négatif, puis le scanner). Ici avec l'appareil Kodak, vous passer le négatif , vous voyez directement en "positif" votre image et en cliquant sur "OK", s'est scanné directement (1s) sur la carte mémoire que vous avez ajouté à l'appareil. Je recommande cet appareil, car j'ai plus beaucoup de négatif N/B d'Afrique à scanner, plus des séries de diapositives. Le seul point négatif, il n'est pas possible de scanner des diapositives avec des verres (c'est trop épais). J'apprécie la rapidité d'un scan.

Neat and compact and easy to set up and operate. It accepts all standard sizes of negatives and slides. I have also scanned the non standard Kodak ADVANTIX APS film but pictures need subsequent cropping. The 6x4 inch display screen display is excellent, it can be tilted for ease of use. The scan only takes a few seconds and is stored on a 32Gb memory stick which can then be used on a computer. Data can also be uploaded direct to a computer using a USB 'C' connecting lead.
Quite pleased with my purchase.

Hab mich echt gewundert, die Bildqualität ist für den Preis sehr gut. Eigentlich wollte ich nur ein Gerät haben, mit dem ich bei meinem Bildern vor dem eigentlichen scannen . eine Vorauswahl treffen kann. Das geht bei Negativen ganz hervorragend , erstaunt hat mich allerdings das die Scanns mit 22 MP sich bei gutem Filmmaterial gut bis A4 eignen und wahrscheinlich noch bis A3. Schade das die Fotos nicht in Raw gescannt werden , das schränkt die Verarbeitung doch wesentlich ein.
Umständlich ist das Betrachten von Dias da diese einzeln in das Gerät eingeschoben werden müssen, das ist zu zeitaufwendig, hier würde sich zur Vorschau ein billige Diabetrachter besser eignen sodas man die Dias nur noch zu scannen in den Scanner schiebt.
Alles in allem ein für den Preis lohnendes Gerät.

Pour avoir utilisé le KODAK Slide N Scan Scanner de Film numérique Max 7 avec quelques 500 diapositives ou plus, j’ai trouvé son fonctionnement et son rendu simplement excellent.
La mise en route et la prise en main sont très simples. Les réglages d’appoint de la luminosité et de la couleur sont efficaces et le rendu final assez bluffant. Avec l’habitude rapidement prise, on peut enchaîner la numérisation des diapositives à grande vitesse. Le grand écran de contrôle de 7’’ est clair et offre une très belle image au couleur naturelle. Le transfert des photos numérisées sur l’ordinateur est au départ en peu surprenant. En effet, il n’y a pas de réel transfert, l’action de transfert permet simplement de faire apparaître la carte mémoire de notre Kodak dans l’explorateur Windows et ainsi permettre de copier ou transférer les photos sur notre ordinateur.
Kodak pourrait fournir un dispositif pour évacuer la dernière diapositive scannée. En effet en fonctionnement, l’insertion de la nouvelle diapositive pousse la ou les précédentes qui après avancement tombent au bout de la glissière très simple et efficace. Mais quand la dernière diapositive est en place, on ne peut plus la faire avancer. Kodak aurait pu fournir un petit gadget tout simple du format d’une diapositive avec un petit manche à son extrémité pour pousser la dernière diapositive jusqu’à sa sortie de glissière.
De même l’entrée de la glissière pour diapositive aurait pu être un petit peu évasée pour faciliter l’entrée de la diapositive.
Mais le KODAK Slide N Scan Scanner de Film numérique Max 7 est un excellent appareil et je ne regrette pas mon achat même s’il n’est pas donné.
