Learning how to use it was quite intuitive for the cassette based functions. I read the whole English part of the five-language manual. I read it again the next day, after the first testing, to be sure that I had not missed anything. I had indeed - how to stop playback of the SD card content - same one button for SD card sound start and stop.
I picked a professionally/commercially recorded publicly sold cassette to start off. Forwarded the tape all the way to the end and back.
You will miss the classic whirring sound of cassette players during fast forward and reverse. Better motors than those of the past? I had to touch the player against my glasses frame to pick the whirring sound in these modes. The disadvantage was that I could not figure out when the tape reached its end in these modes. There is no auto stop at end of fast forward and reverse. A note in the manual could be included that would say typical count of the digital tape counter for 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes tapes. The black on gray LCD digital tape counter is of a nice display size. There is auto stop at end of Play.
I was pleasantly surprised by the playback sound quality of the player in the included ear pieces. These pieces are soft and I could push these into the ear canals without any discomfort. These ears pieces hold each other well when not in use - their rear sides are magnetized. The inbuilt speaker, while small, has reasonable sound for its size.
I did not hear the typical hiss during blank parts of the cassette. I heard the hiss only when I put the SD card in the included USB memory card reader and played it back on my desktop with headphones. The hiss disappeared when the song began.
To test conversion to digital, I recorded a single song, and then the whole side of the cassette unattended. Both showed as single folders when I inserted the SD card on my computer. The cassette player does not make a separate file or folder for every song even if there are gaps between the songs.
I tested my voice recording on the SD card (you can not record to the tape, as the manual says). Yes, it does.
