Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill, among others.
Before I get into the actual review itself,I just want to step out and say right off that I'm totally baffled by the detractors to this film. Some who complain about such things as the animals didn't look right in the dark are so far off as to be in orbit.Do not believe the negative reviews at all.If you have followed the series from the first film(JP) all the way to this, you will NOT be disappointed.
On to the review. This film takes place a few years after the last, as the dinosaurs have escaped, multiplied and have become integrated with the human population on a global scale.Something which the human race has had no choice but to watch and deal with.Pratt & Howard are now the caregivers to Lockwood's granddaughter, and many an underhanded person is after her for her genetics. So both "parents"have had a tendency to keep her on a short leash, which the older she gets(now 14)the more she resents it.One day reality strikes and she is kidnapped and taken to Malta, then on to a large research facility in the Italian Alps run by Biosyn.Of course Pratt and Howard are right on their trail which leads them also to Biosyn in Italy.
Concurrently Dern has been investigating a plague of giant locusts which are devastating corn fields across the U.S.,only leaving fields which have been planted with Biosyn corn seeds alone. She in turn gets in touch with Neill in Utah at a dig site there, and together they wrangle an invite to visit Goldblum at the Biosyn facility in Italy where he lectures. When they arrive at first it seems like he's sold out for money. But it turns out he's as concerned with what's happening as they are and discreetly gives Dern a pass to the lower facility where the locusts are being created.
At the same time Pratt and Howard get separated temporarily on their way as the plane they are flying is attacked by an ancient air predator and goes down.Pratt and the pilot crash land on a frozen lake, while Howard is ejected and ,lands in a dense forest.Through some trials and tribulations the three end up together again, and eventually run into Dern and Neil as they have already encountered Lockwood's granddaughter. They along with Goldblum escape via helicopter piloted by the pilot of the plane. Not only have they retrieved the granddaughter but another important cargo-the Velociraptor Blue had a baby back home and along with the girl was also taken to Italy.Pratt has it safely tied to his back.
Neill and Dern return home to testify against Biosyn and their projects. One of the original researchers from Jurassic Park obtains the granddaughters DNA and bio engineers a solution to the locust problem. And Howard and Pratt return home to settle down once more, and return Blue's offspring to her.
This film has numerous jump/scare scenes and along with a lot of oooh/ahhh moments.I cannot believe that this film was 146 minutes long,as I could have watched another 120 minutes easily. And THAT for me is a good movie. It was great to see the blending of the new and old in this film.Included is a 10 minute short called "Battle at Big Rock".It's a reminder, especially to the small fry, that as neat as the concept of actually living with some dino's could be,the reality would be something totally different.
In conclusion, this a franchised film that has to be seen if you are any kind of fan of the series. It moves at a fast pace and the action rarely slows down. It's a seamless blending of the old and new casts and is bound to please.4 1/2-5 stars.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 28, 2024Verified PurchaseAnother solid Jurassic World film, I found the movie enjoyable and worth adding to my movie library. I have always loved the Jurassic Park series and yes I could go on & on about the parts I love & hate, but to be honest films can only truly be reviewed by the person watching. So give it a shot, if you hate stop watching, if you enjoy that's a good time. I do recommend you watch the first Jurassic World films as they all tie in to this one. If you have not seen Jurassic Park this may not be for you, WOW has it really been 31 years since the first film. The 4k Blu-ray looks great and the standard Blu-ray still looks well great. It also came with a digital download.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 11, 2022Verified PurchaseThere is a lot of criticism around "shoe horning" the two Jurassic generations together, but most of the movie is spent as twin stories.
It would have been really neat if they had a "Pop Up Video" or "Fuzz Facts" from "Hot Fuzz" style subtitle track for facts about dinosaurs or cool production snippets: this is dangerously under utilised in film. And it would definitely have helped with species recognition (how else do I know which dino merchandise I need to buy... *wink*)
Missing cameos of the brothers and Larry from the control room were felt; why no Julianne Moore? In our BLM world, it would have been a great opportunity to update us on Ian Malcolm's daughter, too, even if she is just receiving a phone call in a small town gymnastics club. Oddly, her absence is immediately felt when Ian Malcolm's personal life comes to the foreground.
Why dimetrodon? If it is a tie in to Camp Cretaceous, then why no saber tooth? Archaic DNA doesn't cover it, for me: ichtyostega may have. It just feels like a lazy inclusion, like in kids dino toys.
Lot of Ian Malcolm, which is always good, but still under-utilised Ellie Sattler, whose role is still limited to managing Alan Grant. What waste of Laura Dern's talents. At least the first movie was the early 90s, and she received a serious upgrade from an early 20s surprisingly smart sex object, inspired by Jack Horner's troupe of Angels.
All actors returned to their characters with enthusiasm.
Writing and plot were coherent, if occasionally forced. The movie rarely felt formulaic, for a genre film; it needed more creature suapense time in this feature, and less time focusing on evil people, evil things, and shredding/damage. The dinos all felt hollow, including Blue!
- Reviewed in Canada on September 20, 2022Verified PurchaseLike most other reviewers have indicated, this movie brings together most of the major stars from all of the previous Jurassic "Park"/"World" films and was just fantastic. The Extras on the disc are also well worth the viewing as various members of the cast talk about their previous "Jurassic" film experiences and how the making of this film was different and impacted them. If you haven't seen the film but seen all the others or if you have (and like to watch the series over and over again) you have to include this in your library if for no other reason but to have the possible ending of the film series. Also, as other reviewers have indicated there could be others (follow up films) but probably with all new casts. And for those who have not seen any of the previous "Jurassic" films don't worry I find that this one could stand on its own and if not well then the others are available for view by other means besides purchasing (but I find that having them really available for viewing is the best) - streaming, on demand, TV marathon, etc. Happy Watching and here's hoping your dog doesn't get eaten by a T-Rex (for those who have seen the film series - lol)
