Some oaths are written in blood. Others in magic. After walking away from both, ex-druid Colin McCool finds himself ensnared in a faery queen's web of blackmail and revenge.

Rule #1 of being a druid: Never, EVER make deals with the Fae.

I'm Colin McCool, and the last time I dealt with the Fae, it cost me everything.

Since then, I've been hiding behind scrap iron and protective spells, pretending the supernatural world doesn't exist. No magic. No fae. No exceptions.

Then I got blackmailed into service—courtesy of a Faery Queen whose power makes even the Celtic gods nervous. Now I'm being dragged back into the life I swore to leave behind.

They say you can't go home again.

What they don't tell you is sometimes home comes looking for you—with teeth, claws, and curses...

What Readers Are Saying:

"I was afraid that The Junkyard Druid was going to be another cheap Harry Dresden knockoff, but boy am I glad to be so wrong. It's hard to put into words why I enjoy this series so much. Maybe it's the humanity or the author's willingness to take on very real subjects like sex trafficking. I don't know. Whatever the reason, I'm hooked on the series." ~Matt S.

"I absolutely loved these books from the 1st sentence of the beginning of book one, to the last period... Great writing. On your seat throughout each chapter. Addictive. Never want to put the book down. And you think of it when not reading. Thank you for writing these amazing books for us humans to read!" ~Laurie H.

"In a genre that has become saturated by new authors, I never have a doubt about Michael’s books. They’re always exciting and give me hours of entertainment. My only complaint is he doesn’t pop out one epic novel a month!" ~Kenneth B.

"The Junkyard Druid is an entertaining and addictive entry in the urban fantasy genre!" ~Bob K.

"I find the Junkyard Druid series entertaining and compelling. I think M.D. Massey is giving Butcher a run for his money. Kudos!" ~Gary H.

"MD Massey’s stories are excellent! The character has developed and is yet still the same cocky kid! The research on the Fae is excellent and helps the story flow and provide things to look up. All round fantastic literature for a really good price." ~Johns F.

"The Junkyard Druid series are really fun reads. Well thought out, engaging, with a cast of characters you can get behind! 100% recommend!" ~Nick H.

About the Author

I write dark fantasy, paranormal suspense, and urban fantasy novels. My first series, THEM, is a jaunt through a post-apocalyptic central Texas where the dead walk, and vampires, werewolves and other unsavory creatures roam the night. It has elements of the zompoc genre, dark fantasy, and military survival fiction. On the other hand, my Colin McCool series falls squarely between urban fantasy and paranormal suspense. Colin's world is full of magic, mystery, and folklore come to life. I currently live in the Hill Country near Austin, Texas, which is where much of my fiction is set. Most days you can find me in a local coffee shop or in my office working on my next book, or in my garage pummeling inanimate objects. I have to admit that I've had this book on my shelf for a while. Why didn't I read it? Because, having read the prequel, I knew I'd love it and wanted to save it for the perfect rainy day. M.D. Massey did not disappoint. He brought the mystery, the humour, the paranormal and the heart. This was everything I could want in this book. Colin is in a world of pain after a deep loss. Massey does not run through this and have him running into someone else's arms. He plays the pacing just right. The characters in this book have their flaws and dreams. Hemi is so downright likeable I was just grinning. This book really deserves the five stars. M.D. Massey is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.
P.S. Thank you M.D. Massey for book covers where the hero wears a shirt.

As an older reader I sometimes get frustrated by how long the main character takes to get up to speed as to what is really going on, but in this story, it was not too bad. Typical youth arrogance and attitude, but I found the story interesting with lots of Irish mythology to add flesh to the story line. Look forward to seeing Colin mature into some one who does more than run around and bash things. Guess that means that I will get the next book when it comes out.

Great first novel. Well comparable to Kevin Hearne. I am looking forward to the next episode.
    Keep up the good work.

A very enjoyable read even if the main character feels a little flat. He's supposed to be dealing with some pretty big stuff, emotionally speaking but you only know that because he and everyone else keeps reminding you of it, he doesn't act like a tortured soul for the most part. That tendency to tell rather than show is probably the only flaw I can point to in this book, other than that it's a nice romp with some great use of Irish mythology (some of it even better than that other druid series). Give it a go, I know I'll be reading the next one.

Wow this held me spell bound from the start. I loved the quirky characters that inhabit Colin’s world. Funny, irreverent and sad in places. Roller coaster ride that didn’t get bogged down in longwinded explanations. I read this using my KU subscription and have already downloaded book 2. Congratulations M.D. Massey on a well told story.

Great characters woven into a well crafted novel. It kept my attention from the go-get until the end, and I look forward to the next in the series. This is NOT a book for those who like to read a few pages at a time, as you'll be drawn in and keep reading !

I very much enjoyed this book, but it was pretty short--I read it in about two and a half hours (but I am a fast reader). You do get a good sense of the MC, Colin, but, when the author starts trying to explain all the Irish myths in a paragraph summary, it's just an information dump that is poured out on the reader. The Irish Gaelic names, which, unless you speak Gaelic or are Irish or studied Irish myth or Gaelic, you are pronouncing in your head incorrectly, are sometimes too much alike to keep straight. And I actually studied Irish mythology at Oxford in England, which was the only reason I knew what the author was talking about (and also how I know you're pronouncing those names incorrectly--they don't sound how they're spelled--believe me). To be fair to the author, it's hard to fit centuries of mythology into a one or two paragraph summary, and he did a pretty good job of it, but, if the book had been longer and fleshed out more, he could have done a better job of it. I also really did not like the time jumping from chapter to chapter. Chapter one is more like a Prologue -- three years ago -- but then you have present day, then a countdown since the day a tragedy occurred, which goes something like, eight months, two days since 'tragedy.' I got into the swing of it, but not until five or six chapters in, and it was annoying. I see why the author did it--neither the flashbacks nor the primary plot were fleshed out enough to be a book on their own--but they could have been.

However, Colin McCool is a likable character (if a little too naive to be believable, and the reader can relate to and empathize with him. I would read other books in this series, and I recommend this book to those who enjoy an angst-ridden, almost anti-hero, with a huge chip on his shoulder and a world of hurt in his heart.

This is an awesome and very entertaining book, and I can’t wait to read more. A world where wizards and druids fight against evil, but humanity has no idea. The plot is excellent and the good guy is a very likeable, complex character. I totally recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good ongoing magical saga

Weaving the world of magic into the modern world with flamboyant, reckless skill. Colin, the young druid hero is a tormented soul torn apart by the death of his great love: Jesse. But, against all odds he soldiers on to continue his life, fighting evil and protecting those he loves against dark forces. Action, adventure, humour and romance wrapped up in mysteries to solve and cracking plot twists. An enjoyable read for all fans of urban fantasy.
