I had no issue with this tool removing the driver side differential bearing on my 2006 Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 5 speed base model. Yes it’s a tight fit, but I did not have to grind mine down. All I did was put the plate (the oval shaped piece with a threaded hole in the middle that would be used to pull the bearing out) inside the bearing at an angle. I pushed it with my hands to get it wedged into the inside of the bearing tight enough that it stayed put. Then I took a very large pry bar, put it against the plate that was still wedged into the bearing, and hit the end of the pry bar with a mallet. After two or three blows the plate slipped in behind the bearing as it was designed to do.
In short, just tap it into place with a large pry bar. You’re not damaging anything except maybe the old bearing, which doesn’t matter because you’re replacing it. Also note that you need to stuff something into the differential so that the plate has a back stop when you pound it into place. I used the bubble wrap that the tool came wrapped in.
