Manual but great!

Manual but great!
This is 100% manual lense: the camera mode must be selected as Manual and everything is going to be controlled by the photographer. However, the pictures you might get is what makes this lens so useful for telephotos! Update: The only thing I disliked is that the mounting ring is too weak, it broke after 2 months without any reason. I suspect the quality of the material is not that good. Everything else is OK.

My lens arrived damaged, the vice for stabilizing the tripod mount can not be adjusted.

So we will start with the pros:
Decent sharpness for the price point
Focuses on objects that are very close, even at 80mm
    Very lightweight

    Now for the cons:
-Focusing with this lens is difficult, requiring pinpoint accuracy for sharp images
-the only thing holding the lens together is the zoom locking ring
-the zoom locking ring will come undone while you're focusing, and the lens can come apart(see attached image)
-The focus ring is very, very stiff, and often times will cause the zoom lock to spin with it

A high-quality auto lens with this level of zoom costs thousands. This one is … a bit cheaper. But it gets you really close to the action and that’s really exciting. You can handle the purple fringing in editing. I would happily buy this again. I like it so well, I’m planning to get the 650-1300 mm in the future.

I took up amateur birding this year, wasn't quite sure where to start and still figuring things out. I already had a Nikon D5500 DSLR, so figured I'd just start with a lower cost lens that had a higher zoom range. To be transparent, I didn't compare quality or features with any other lenses, I was simply looking for a better zoom lens than my 8mm-50mm at a low entry price that would help me actually identify birds in the wild.

I'm about 2 weeks in, and this has served the exact purpose I'd hoped. I'm getting better in manual mode (no auto focus, no aperture mode, etc) but my pictures are getting better, too. I've attached 2 pictures, both Red-bellied Woodpeckers...the first shows the very first time I used the lens (about 10 days ago?) and the second was just today.

I'm getting better at identifying birds, which was my main focus. 5* for being a perfect fit for my need.

I just got my lens yesterday and I must say I am blown away by what this lens is capable of, and for the price this comes at, its unmatchable. Let me explain why I say this.
Let me start by things you cannot do with this - 1.Autofocus , you have to manually focus
2.Take handheld shots in low light
    3. Infact you may be not take handheld shots at all.(havent tried it)
But for 100 dollars and this focal range I dont expect it to.

I have a professional/semi-professional camera body, very well built tripod amd i love taking close up shots of moon rise and sunrises , and I i took amazing captures last night and today morning using an intervalometer. I was soooooo stoked. I love this lens for what I do and to me this is more than good enough.
It is basically a pair of metal binoculars that attach to your camera, and if you are a little careful you will be able to take sharp pictures on a tripod with a remote shutter release.

I would not get it if there is anything that needs to be done handheld. But for what its worth and what I do, that I explained earlier, it is one of the best $100 i have spent.
