With an I-beam bar that reduces bending and flexing even under extreme pressure, it's ideal for heavy-duty applications such as installation, demolition, and rough glue-up. Dual swivel jaws feature non-marring full-face pads to provide even distribution of clamping force on the workpiece. The pads can be easily removed to activate the swivel jaws and maintain full contact even when conforming to irregular shapes.     First off I own 14 of these clamps. All of the ones I own previous to my most recent purchase of a 36" model have metal housing at the clamp mechanism, metal release handles and a larger clamping handle. I'm not sure if Irwin changed the construction to reduce cost to sell them for less but I rather they would have kept the same design and charge a little more need be. The new ones are all plastic or some composite, not metal in the handle mechanism. Time will tell if this new model holds up to the older ones which have been great. I just thought you all should know since I use reviews to make purchases I figured I should help a future buyer make an informed decision.
