This book, paired with a dog toy squeaky chicken, was the most hilarious way to help my kindergarteners understand how interrupting is impolite!

The illustrations are lovely, but while I was expecting "interrupting" behaviour to be dealt with and overcome in the book, this was not at all the case. Instead, the father figure is defeated by the child chicken's constant interrupting, which continues without consequence (in fact, the interrupting chicken is rewarded with more stories despite disobeying her doormat of a father repeatedly). It is of course expected to be taken as "funny" to the reader that the child has the upper hand (as in so much modern media). Sadly, Interrupting is presented as cute and acceptable behaviour for a child in this book. Ha ha, children interrupt all the time in our modern world, primed to grow up to be fine interrupting, self-serving adults. I threw it out. I would never read this to my son, no matter how "cute" the illustrations are (no doubt the reason for all the lax 5 stars).
