Easy to use, with unmatched metering
5 out of 5 stars
Easy to use, with unmatched metering
I purchased this audio interface mainly to facilitate sample-synchronized measurement averaging of in-ear microphone headphone measurements using Room EQ Wizard (REW). The specs are competitive, and the support of 192 kHz sample rate enables the much faster taking of measurements through REW. When trying to take distortion measurements, first make sure that your microphones are compatible. In my case, the unbalanced in-ear electret condenser microphones I had originally acquired from an HRTF measurement kit required plug-in power, my thus needing to obtain the RØDE VXLR+ adapter to convert from 48V phantom power to the 4V plug-in power needed for these microphones to produce a useful signal. For distortion measurements, use the VXLR+, not VXLR Pro, as the latter uses a transformer which measurably introduces third-order harmonic distortion below 2 kHz. The knurled knobs have a pleasant damped feel to their rotation, hindering faster adjustments, but facilitating fine single-finger adjustments. The metering display is quite useful for seeing whether the preamp setting would drive the device into clipping. The TRS sockets can feel rather heavy to insert TRS jacks into. The loopback feature was rather useful for measuring the frequency response (transfer function) of certain VST plugins such as those for binaural HRTF rendering without having to measure it through my headphones.

All and all it’s a good quality interface. The disappointing part is note being able to use it with mixcraft 9 pro due to to constant audio dropouts seems to work perfectly in cubase 10.5 tho

It sounds really good when it works, but it is plagued with bad drivers or firmware. Output often stops working and I need to reboot the interface. I’m thinking about returning it. Hopefully MOTU provide a fix soon.

The audio interface was great when it worked. The front display panel was useful to prevent clipping. USB C is also nice.

Unfortunately the Motu M.2. has a known hardware issue or maybe firmware/driver that makes it become unable to be detected with Windows 10. If your unit stops getting detected on windows, and it is still under warranty, open a warranty ticket with Motu, and Motu will offer to repair it.

Issue does not appear to exist with Mac computers.

Spent hours and hours trying to get this to work properly, but I just cannot get this to work 100%.

Following the youtube guide to use voicemeeter + ASIO driver has the best improvement in reducing pops and audio glitches. But I'm still experiencing occasional stutters in video playback that can't replicated when I just play audio out of HDMI. I'm probably going to get an apple dongle and just use this as a headphone amp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bella scheda ma...
