It examines the core concepts applicable to all ERP environments in depth, and it explains how those concepts are executed in the world's leading ERP system, SAP® ERP.
Integrated Process Approach
Magal & Word approach ERP topics using an integrated process perspective of the firm. Each business process is discussed within the context of its execution across functional areas in the company, with special emphasis on the role of data in managing the coordination between activities and groups. Students will gain a deep appreciation for the role of enterprise systems in efficiently managing business processes from multiple functional perspectives.
Active Learning
Consistent with the focus on the process perspective of business operations, this book and the accompanying online supplements are designed to actively engage students through multiple learning activities. Students will be required to apply the concepts covered in the text both to real-world situations and to the running case study used in their hands-on exercises. In this way, students can literally experience what each employee in a process must do, what data they need, and how their actions impact other people in the company.
Running Case Study
Many key examples, demonstrations, and assignments incorporated throughout the book are based on a fictional company, Global Bike Incorporated (GBI). GBI exists virtually in the GBI ERP system, which is used to provide students with hands-on experience with executing the various processes in SAP® ERP. Students will become intimately familiar with GBI's operations and will develop a deep appreciation for the real-world importance of the process concepts in the course.
Real-world Examples
In addition to the integrated approach and the GBI case study, Integrated Business Processes with ERP Systems includes multiple scenarios from diverse industries that demonstrate how businesses actually utilize ERP capabilities. - Reviewed in Canada on September 9, 2014Verified PurchaseDo not buy the paperback edition!!! It is an unofficial copy and not exactly same as the official hardcover option. This is a preliminary version with different text that is is not the final proof read copy from the authors (even the actual sentences are sometimes edited from the official copy).

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than borrowing from school
Verified PurchaseI didn’t like the class but was able to get the book cheap here. This purchase was an online course. Couldn’t resell the book so ended up donating it to the Salvation Army. Got value from it as an alternative to borrowing and renting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for SAP Consultants
Verified PurchaseHi
To be honest this book gives an excellent overview about the basic SAP modules and their integration with each other. I have 3 years experience with SAP and almost two years with consulting and the book really helps you to understand how the SAP modules(processes) are integrated.
In the consulting world people(my experience) usually start operating with one of the SAP modules mentioned in this book but still after many years of experience they don't really have knowledge about the other modules and people are largely dependent of other consultants working with other modules if the development task has integration with other modules. Also the big picture remains blurry.
Iam working as a Retail consultant so my responsibilities at this stage is to manage the whole supply chain in SAP, concerning modules SD,MM,WM and all the Retail specific functionalities. The book has proven to be a very good in understanding the basics of the SAP processes what comes to supply chain management and integrations.
So if you want to understand the big picture and to be able to work with SAP development which are not fully in your field of expertise, I highly suggest to read the book. Also you can easily use this book when writing functional specifications or when giving training lessons to the customer configuration managers or end users.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why are you reading this?
Verified PurchaseSolid textbook. Throws a lot of text at you trying to explain how SAP is organized. Don't really get why since the pictures do a much better job of that. Anyway, it's not like you have a choice in getting this book or not. Ask your professor to clarify SAP's organizational structures. That's just hard to explain no matter how good or bad a textbook is.
