This is my first Insta360 camera and I do really like the versatility this little cam gives, but there are a few drawbacks. First, the size is great. The camera itself is just a small pill shaped thing with a lens on one end. That makes it easily adaptable to many different options of how you want to wear it or use it. It comes with a housing that you snap the camera into that gives you extra battery life, and a touchscreen on the back of it, very similar to a standard GoPro. One of the drawbacks of this housing is it is not waterproof. The small pill camera itself is, but the housing is not, so make sure you don’t get the housing submerged.

It does come with several attachments that give you a lot of versatility. There is an attachment that you can stick on a flat clean surface that allows the camera to basically just be perched on a surface without falling off. Nice. It also comes with a clip attachment that allows you to clip it onto something flat and thin. I used it on the brim of a hat, and it worked great for that purpose. It also comes with a little magnetic necklace type thing that you wear under your shirt, and then the camera magnetically attaches to it through your shirt to give you a chest-height mounted view. I used this when we went on a hike, and it really give a nice perspective of the hike we did. Kind of a “first-person” view type. I love that it came with all these attachments.

This kind of camera is more for first person filming than for taking a video of an object in my opinion. I used the hat clip to video my son water skiing, but even with the 2x zoom (which is the max it has) he was still a little far out and the quality wasn’t the greatest in that situation. My phone took much better video for that use than this did. When I did the hike and used the necklace thing, that video came out awesome! The quality was superb and it really felt like you were there doing the hike with me. I think the focal point of this camera is for more close up video than far away.

The part that did disappoint me, is the battery life of the little camera itself. When we did the hike, it only lasted about 30 min before it was depleted. This was on the 2.7K quality so if you bumped it to 4K, it may even be less. That was disappointing as most of the attachments are for just the camera itself! I didn’t want to have to bring the housing which would have given me much more battery life, but then I’d have to carry a separate object and I’d have to stick the camera in it and wait for it to charge before putting it back on the necklace thing. I wish the battery lasted longer. I suppose if you were to just use this on a ski or snowboard run, or a skateboard or bike run, or even a waterski (if you trust the magnetic ability) run that may only last 5-15 min per run, then this would be great for that. If you’re trying to get anything that would be a longer activity, you may want to bring the housing with you, or use a different camera that has better battery life.

Overall, I’m still happy with the camera and its intended use cases. I hope to use it for more first person type of things to capture some great videos.

I’ve used GoPros and find I prefer this aside from a single issue. First the good. The smaller kit received here is covers all my needs. The interface is easily understandable. The setup is excellent with a walkthrough programmed into the device itself. I ignored the instructions and set the entire thing up just following my nose. I then reset it back to factory and followed the instructions finding I did it completely on my own.

While I’ve not had occasion to use all its modes, the ones I tried resulted in an excellent output. Of note to old crusts like me, the app isn’t limited to my iPhone but in an astounding exhibition of insight, the manufacturer realized its customer base may not only be an 8-year-old girls who live in their phones so also offered an ‘app’ or program that runs on a PC.

Both apps work well and are easy to understand. Having the camera detachable from its docking station results in a much smaller, lighter device to hang on a shirt (with included magnet) or hat visor or any other place. The mounting method is one I find superior to GoPro.

The one issue I have is a doozy, though. Its battery life. Runtime is rated at 2 hours 20 minutes or 140 minutes. I never have gotten a single hour’s run time. There’s no interchangeable battery to swap in so that’s it for the production or at least clip.

Oh, one more thing. I found the full manual on the maker’s site in a PDF. I recommend downloading it because it’s so well done.

This is good for a very specific use case. First off, get the higher capacity one, especially if you’re gonna shoot in 4k. Don’t consider the 64 to save a couple bucks. If you do go for the 64, it’s not really super prohibitive, you just have to be aware of what you plan to film, and how long you plan to film it. Video quality is surprisingly good for this, but the playback on the device is really bad. The only way to appreciate the video quality is to transfer the files to a computer to watch it. When it does video playback on device, it’s the same quality as when it’s streaming with the camera away from the body. You’d figure the video quality would be better when reviewing on the device since the camera is connected physically, but that’s not the case.

Battery life is really good, though when you’re done using the camera and put it back into the body, the red light illuminates for charging, and everyone always asks if it’s recording. Sound quality is alright, but struggles a lot with wind or loud environments.

Still, the form factor is really what you’re after with this camera, it weighs nothing and offers you a couple new avenues of creativity that other cameras just can’t achieve. The camera comes with a replaceable lens cover, it just unscrews and you put a new one on. Nice touch.
