This is one of the "standard" models of foot controller. It's a sturdy, heavy pedal which sits on the floor, attaches to a computer by USB and plays nicely with a number of common transcription programs, such as Express Scribe (paid version only) and F4 (or F5 on the Mac). If you have a Mac and use Keyboard Maestro, it's also possible to assign the pedal buttons to replace keypresses in other applications - for example, starting and stopping a video player while typing in Word.
It would normally go under an office desk, but you can use it in more relaxed ways. I sometimes type while stretched on a couch, pressing the pedal with my toe. The pedal's action is sensitive enough that this works fine.
If you don't already have a transcription program, do get one. The advantage to using an application designed for transcription is that the audio only plays when you have your food depressed on the pedal, and each time you restart, the program backs up a second or two before playing the audio. Dedicated programs also have options like automatically inserting timecode.
I previously owned the other Infinity model, the IN-USB-1, which is slightly cheaper. I was curious about the differences between the two. From the images, I wrongly assumed that this model, the IN-USB-2, had a single flat panel on top that clicked when tilted in different directions, while the IN-USB-1 had separate pedals. But in fact both models have three independent pedals on top - the curved sections on the right and left side of this model are not joined to the middle section, and press down separately. It's just a sleeker, updated design of the IN-USB-1. Both models feel professional and should last for years.
If you like to take and transcribe notes from an IC recorder, or transcribe the dialogue on TV shows or movies, using this device and the right software will make the job at least 30% faster.
