I bought this item not expecting much. But I'm blown away by how well it works and now crisp and clean the machining is on the parts. It's not the sort of artwork that one gets with the big brand names. But the quality of both the stand and the gauge are FAR better than the price suggests.
The magnet holds strongly on a smooth bare steel or iron surface. The arm locks firmly with only light effort on the knob. The clamp on the end of the arm is cleanly made and grips the dovetail or around shaft adapter easily with little effort. The DTI gauge has a very smooth moving probe. The only downside is that the dial face is a little stiff for rotating to zero the gauge. The force needed makes the needle jump around a lot and makes it just about impossible to zero the dial to the needle. But with a gauge like this we're generally only looking for movement or lack of it rather than hard dimensions. And that's how I'll use it.
