This is a solidly built heater with a nice feature that my other heaters don't have: an on/off switch.
I use immersion heaters for inflatable pools and bathtubs. The longer they're in operation, the more likely they are to melt electrical sockets. If you're planning on doing the same as I am, be sure to watch for potential damage.
I used this immersion heater to heat a 68" x 54" x 23" inflatable pool. It took a few hours (maybe 6), but it worked. I went in the pool and it didn't electrocute me. I think it electrocuted me just as I was stepping out.
I compared this immersion heater to another cheaper one I bought. I filled pails with water from the garden hose (probably 4 gallons/15 litres in a pail).
Using this heater at the start: 11°C
At 5 min: 17°C, 10 min: 27°C, 15 min: 33°C, 20 min: 40.5°C
Other cheaper heater at the start: 11°C
5 min: 21.5°C, 10 min: 30°C, 15 min: 38°C, 20 min: 44°C
The cheaper heater electrocuted me several times. I filled a third pail to retest this immersion heater, touched the water, and it didn't electrocute me. Although this heater took longer to heat the same amount of water, I give it higher marks for not electrocuting me.
I tested this heater a couple times for heating my bathtub. I couldn't do anything one time, because it was blowing my breaker. The next time I tried, I made sure the dehumidifier, bathroom fan, and space heater were all off.
25°C to start.
1 hour and 55 minutes later: 38°C
No electrocution, and I stepped in and out of the tub several times. I had a milk bath. Bath salts would have been a real test.
I'm going to use this immersion heater for inflatable pools and bathtubs. I don't completely trust it not to electrocute me, but it feels much safer than my other one. Of course, I could make sure it's shut off before I touch water, but things happen. I have an immersion thermometer but it's hard to avoid touching water sometimes.
