I have had these for a few months and placed them in locations that I thought might freeze. I was able to monitor these sensitive areas on my phone from another province at any time, and see review the past and present temperatures.
It's been two months now and I have not needed to change the batteries yet. I have the devices set for unnecessarily frequent sampling and could change that to save batteries but haven't bothered.
You'll want to have 12 AA batteries on hand when you start out and installing the batteries initially and changing them is a bit of work since there are four screws in each device and they are fairly tight.
The screwdriver that comes with them is quite small and you may want to use a larger screwdriver if you have one.

Because I live in an place where temperatures of minus-35 Celsius are not uncommon in winter, I needed a Wi-Fi capable device that would monitor the temperature of a few areas of our cabin when we are not present on site for days at a time. The Inkbird Smart Thermometer seemed a great solution. I ordered it in January of 2024, and managed to set it up without issue. The gateway connected to my internet service, and all three sensors were registered on the app. At first, the sensors disagreed on the temperature by a couple of degrees, but the calibration capability easily sorted that out.
It worked well for about four months, at which time I removed it, as the threat of extremely low temperatures was passed. Then in October, I attempted to set it all up again. This time, the gateway would not connect to the same router that had worked months earlier! After scanning through the available online help and suggestions, and trying all of them (repeatedly!), I decided it was time to reach out to customer support at Inkbird. They replied quickly, but were able to suggest nothing more than the steps I had already taken to try to resolve the problem. So, no joy in that regard.
Finally, after about three exchanges with their support personnel, I was asked to send a video and screenshots that showed how I was attempting the connection and the results I was getting through the app (which was no result it all).
Once Inkbird was satisfied that I was not trying to scam them out of a freebie (you can't fault them for that!) they quickly replied that they would send me a replacement. As I write this part of the review, I am waiting for the replacement to arrive and hoping that whatever unresolved problem the original unit had, the new one will work as it should for years to come.
So, bottom line - the device worked very well as a stand-alone monitor first time around. (I was not needing it to connect to a network of other devices - my cabin is not that "smart".) Good value for the money if the replacement I have been promised lasts more than one winter!
I will update this review once the new unit has had a chance to prove itself.
Here's the update: The replacement package arrived a few weeks after Inkbird agreed to replace it. Not bad. Upon plugging in the gateway I could see the operation was different already. The promised "fast blink" mode was happening! As soon as I opened the app, the gateway was recognized. I didn't even have to choose it from the lengthy list of options. It connected to the Wi-Fi within seconds, and once the sensors were loaded with fresh batteries, and the T button on the back pressed, they paired and all was good to go.
I still have no real sense of what caused the first unit to fail, but the fact that Inkbird sent me a replacement (within the warranty period, of course) allows me to recommend this product to you.
Thanks Inkbird. (Hopefully I'm not re-updating this review with disappointing news next winter, but for now, all good.)

1. It is easy to install and setup the device and APP
2. The gateway and sensors look very sturdy and do not look cheap. After chatting with their customer support, I was told sensors resist splashing water. This means I can safely use sensors outdoors.
3. It comes with more features than it said although quite a few are still in development. For example, the gateway comes with an alarm. This means the APP receives an alert and the gateway beeps. This is great when thresholds are critical, however, the problem is the gateway does not honor the not-to-disturb schedule setting. I have to turn off the gateway alarm entirely in my case. Their customer support told me that is because the gateway does not have a clock. I kind of doubt his explanation though. If I can turn off the gateway alarm manually through the APP, I think the APP can check the schedules before issuing a command to the gateway for an alarm. I think that is an incomplete function or an incorrect configuration, anyway.

Cons:
Like most of the others said about their APP. The app is not only for this product alone but also for the rest of their other products. It is Okay for the basic setup to make this product work. However, it is sometimes confusing in the advanced setting and configuration. A detailed manual should help.

Overall:
This product comes with great value and exceeds my expectations.

I ordered this product with the view of monitoring the temperature in three locations in my cottage. The product is installed and working.

The batteries are a real pain to replace. You have to remove 4 screws to access them. Then the battery itself is very difficult to remove. Very difficult.

As indicated the Android App is very rigid. It is designed to be used with many gateways and the sub sensors. When you access your gateway you have to then access the three sub-sensors individually.

A real pain when all you want to do is see the current temperature at all three locations. Needlessly time consuming.

Please remember Inkbird that you are also designing a consumer product not just an industrial product so my comment is accurate. I can just see some product manager rolling his eyes somewhere.
