- Reviewed in Canada on September 7, 2020Verified PurchaseI have to say I'm quite impressed with how this cable works on my N64 and GameCube. It works right out of the box, as long as you plug in the included USB cable to a power source. It makes the wiring a little more chaotic to keep perfectly organized, but it's a small compromise.
In terms of picture quality, it's certainly better than when I plug in my regular composite cables, but it's not as nice as a proper HDMI mod or the very expensive component cables. The picture is a bit sharper and there's no input lag. Colours are a tiny bit washed out, but that can usually be corrected by changing the picture settings on your TV (worked for me). Don't expect a super high fidelity image; it's basically just a small step up from your component cables, with the added benefit of working seamlessly on a modern TV that may have trouble interpreting the composite signal. I recommend keeping the setting switch on the cable to 4:3 instead of 16:9 as that just stretches the image and makes it look objectively worse. Get used to the black bars on the side of your screen; that's the actual output aspect ratio.
If you're looking for the best value solution to getting a high-quality image on your TV with your GameCube specifically, I recommend the Carby HDMI adapter. It's approximately $75 and outputs quality equal or better than the component cables (much better than composite). There are no such inexpensive solutions for the N64; this is the most affordable HDMI solution available. That said, if you're not super picky, these cables do the job quite well and you probably won't be disappointed.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 24, 2023Verified PurchaseI bought this thing back in 2020. Use it a handful of times, and then put it back in storage.
I ended up buying a projector, and I wanted to see how it would look with the upscaler. To my disappointment, the feed kept cutting out. Looks like a bad connection from the HDMI end of the cable to the PCB, so I have to make sure it doesn't get touched during use, otherwise the video or audio will cut out. Poor build quality all around. I can't say I've ever bought a Hyperkin product that wasn't poor quality. I had 2 Retron 5s, and a couple gamepads that broke with very little use. This is basically the last Hyperkin product I buy. This is a company that cares very little about quality control.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 19, 2020Verified PurchaseI was very happy with this purchase. I recently bought a GameCube and did a bit of research of what product to use to hook up my GameCube on my 27¡± 4K LG monitor.
I really wanted to use the GCHD MK II by Eon. However, after buying the GameCube and a couple of games, the price was a bit much.
I decided to get these Hyperkin cables for now, as the price was only $11.
I can¡¯t review these cables in comparison to other products, but for the price it does get the job done. Keep your expectations in check, as these are not going to suddenly turn your GameCube games into HDMI remasters.
I do like how I can easily connect my GameCube to my monitor at an affordable price. The quality is ok. There is a bit of soft fuzziness to the image but the games are still playable. I don¡¯t like how the cables need a power source. This creates quiet a bit of cable clutter. You also need to provide your own adapter to plug the power in.
For $11, if you¡¯re looking for a simple solution, this is it. I¡¯m happy in the mean time until I save some money for the EON HDMI adapter.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 26, 2020Verified PurchaseI got this for my old N64 which I still play a lot. This cable enhances the picture, makes it much much better than your average AV cable. If I had to make a small complaint, it would be the need for a dedicated power cable for it to work properly. Not a big deal, though. Totally worth the money.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 9, 2021Verified PurchaseMy experience with this product was very meh. While I didn¡¯t expect this to upscale my games, it made everything washed out, and the colours were off. It is definitely easy to use and set up, but it¡¯s not a good quality product. They need to fix how the colours are displayed and how washed out everything is.

Reviewed in Canada on April 26, 2025Verified PurchaseVraiment plus beau que tous les autres adapteur. Aucune interf¨¦rences. Fonctionne aussi bien sur snes, N64 et Gamecube.
Je recommande vivement!
- Reviewed in Canada on November 21, 2023Verified PurchaseI've always used cheap knockoffs for my retro game conversion because I always just thought oh well it's good enough... until I used this.
Definitely worth the price if you want to do some retro gaming on your modern tv. Cables and boxes than a regular setup. Most importantly, the picture looks great and crisp. Awesome for a plug and play option.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 2, 2021Verified PurchaseOnly have used the product a handful of times since purchased back in early 2020. Unfortunately the audio seems to produce a gradual crackling sound until it completely cuts out entirely.
Do yourself a favour and purchase a different set of cables. I gave the product two stars because I had no complaints with the visuals (although you can get better quality elsewhere - you get what you pay for)
The cables work well when they actually work and if you're looking for a cheap alternative to connect your system to your TV. Hopefully if you purchase these cables you don't run to this issue as it seems a good amount of people experienced this same problem.
