- Reviewed in Canada on May 24, 2025Verified PurchaseA really sturdy retrofit support for mounting and supporting even a heavy ceiling fan safely. It is easy to slide into an existing ceiling hole, and can expand up to a 24” ceiling joist spacing, then dig in to the wood and tighten by twisting the support 5 to 6 rotations. I could have even done a one-arm pull-up on this without fear after the teeth dig into the joists. Comes with a nifty electrical box the snaps onto the shaft and all hardware. This was a terrific and essential purchase for securely mounting a heavy ceiling fan.

- Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2020Verified PurchaseOut of every brace I've seen at the hardware stores and on 鶹 have been lacking in being a complete and effective product. This Raco brace has it all:
- Comes with the brace AND a sturdy box with screws. You even get a ground screw. Everything needed is here. All you need is your fixture.
- The twist mechanism is the key here. You simply put this into the hole in your ceiling or wall and twist to drive the teeth into the adjacent studs. Three to five twists and this brace is on strong without damaging your studs. Do not try, but I could partially hold my upper body weight on this bar. You won't have many fans or lights that will exceed it's weight rating. Other brands, use screws to tighten the brace which does not drive the teeth into the studs - major fail.
- The entire device is metal. The other brand uses plastic for the ends. Many users have broken these plastic pieces upon tightening. Not the Raco. The ends and feet are metal.
- Some other brands don't have feet. This makes it much harder to ensure the ends are level with the ceiling. With the Raco, one sits the brace on the ceiling. Then you can adjust and take as many breaks as you want before tightening. It's not going anywhere.
- A bonus that, the box can be moved extremely close to the one end. This means that you can install this if your ceiling hole is flush against a stud. It worked for me. I really did not want to drill screws at an angle to secure regular boxes.
This is the perfect old work light and fan box.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 23, 2022Verified PurchaseAppears to be very well made. I replaced a ceiling light with a ceiling fan. While the photo only shows an installation where the box is centered, lights/boxes are usually next to, or fastened to, a truss or joist, not centered between. Regardless, this product works for either application. This product saved me having to crawl up into my attic, remove insulation and either fit a wooden brace between two trusses or purchase a special box to screw solidly to the joist. It took me minutes to install this unit. My only concern or critique is that the barbs on each end might be slightly longer to pierce the wood deeper for a better grip. I may be concerned about nothing but if I were to improve the product that would be my only suggestion.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 5, 2024Verified PurchaseI upgraded to this for use with a new ceiling fan replacing a normal light fixture. It was easy to use and the box is solid, it doesn’t move at all.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 27, 2024Verified PurchaseEasy to install and feel very secure for a dinning light. Much cheaper than getting a handyman to install a ceiling light. Took about 30 mins to get the light installed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Verified PurchaseI purchased a ceiling fan for my bedroom not paying any attention of how I’m going to install it. I believed (stupidly) that I could attach it to the ceiling. Not the case when you have a plaster board one. This brace did the job bit perfectly highly recommend it and thank goodness 鶹 sells it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer!
Verified PurchaseThis bracket did what it was supposed to do. Prior to the install I did my measurements and mounted it dead center where I wanted it. Installation was a breeze. Bracket seems to be very sturdy and would be able to hold up my ceiling fan without issue. I used this bracket even though I had access to my attic. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean up took longer than the install. Very solid mount
Verified PurchaseI almost learned the hard way that the joist brace they put in most homes is cheap stamped steel and plastic electrical boxes. Eventually it failed ad thanfully the fan only fell partially out of the ceiling.
Purchased this unit because I like my ceiling fan to be solid. The existing hole in the ceiling was big enough to get a pair of bolt cutters up to snap the old brace in half so I could completely remove it. Got the new brace up, ensuring the feet were positioned correctly. Once tightened completely, this mount is not going anywhere.
The metal box and included screws were easy to attach once everything was centered. Reconnected the wires and finished remounting the fan. No drywall work needed which was very important to me since like everyone, I am on a budget. THere are some great DIY videos that make the install easy. Watch them several times before you start!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality product, good price
Verified PurchaseI used this to rero-fit a ceiling fan to my vaulted master bathroom ceiling. The product is stout and easy to install, I have no concerns at all about stability with this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked better than advertised.
Verified PurchaseI just purchased two ceiling fans for my garage. These fans are replacing two original light fixtures.
The light fixtures were not strong enough for a ceiling fan, so I purchased two of these kits.
I just finished installing the first one.
This fit fine for a 24" span. The original electrical box was nailed to the truss.
I was suprised how closely I could get the new box to the truss plate. It is very adjustable.
Also, one side is sitting on a truss plate and this holds on to the truss plate just fine.
This support is strong, even at the 24" width. It is definitely going to work for the 52" fans that I have.
The fan doesn't wobble or move a bit. It feels SOLID.
This support was very easy to install. I've never done this before, and the hardest part was enlarging the hole in the drywall.
I am very happy and I will buy this again the next time I install a ceiling fan.
Hope this helps.
