- Reviewed in Canada on July 24, 2025I am a huge fan of La Pimenterie so when I saw this kit I jumped on it!
First of all, I love the challenge idea! If you like spicy food, this is definitely a fun activity to do with a group of friends.
For the sauces themselves, these were all new to me, even though I've tried many from this brand, and they were all really good.
Can't recommend this brand and this kit enough!

- Reviewed in Canada on May 4, 2025---- THE PRODUCT -----
La Pimenterie Inc. is a Montreal-based hot sauce company established in 2016 by Canadian filmmaker, Julien Fréchette. In buying this product, you directly support a small, Canadian-owned business!
For $115, this 10-sauce package offers a wide variety of sauces at a great value: At $11.50 per bottle, that's 49c cheaper than on La Pimenterie's website, and competitive with prices you'll find in stores that carry local brands (if you're in Ontario, this includes brands such as Pepper North from Oshawa and Heartbeat Hot Sauce from Thunder Bay).
While I am a bit of a hot sauce fanatic, and thrilled to get a 10-pack of brand new sauces to try, I love that this package is a giftable game akin to the Hot Ones experience (catch it on Youtube with Sean Evans and his various celebrity guests; an interview show with hot questions and even hotter wings!). Cook up wings with your family and friends, and douse them in increasingly spicy sauces to get your taste buds tingling!
Peppers that are included in this collection of spicy delights range from the milder end (jalapenos and habeneros) to the super spicy (Scorpion, Thai, Trinidad, and Ghost). There is something for everyone!
---- THE CHALLENGE-----
After completing this hot sauce challenge, I wanted to share my notes on the taste and spiciness of each sauce included in this gift set. I have rated heat out of 10 and flavour out of 5.
*(1) Chain Reaction: This is akin to Frank's hot sauce in the sense that it is very mild, zingy, and can be used on a variety of foods, from eggs to burgers. Regarding heat, I give it a 2.5/10. Flavour: 5/5.
*(2) Green Thai -- as seen on Hot Ones! This one tastes exactly like the label says; it's a creamy green Thai curry sauce that would be great in lunch wraps or added to dinner. Heat: 2.5/10. Flavour: 5/5.
*(3) Calypso. This is one of my favourites; there is a low spice that is perfectly complemented by the sweetness of the pineapple. I'll be adding this to Jamaican patties and pizzas. Heat: 3/10. Flavour: 5/5.
*(4) Queso Sin Queso. I was so pleasantly surprised by this vegan cheese hot sauce! It gets its cheesy flavour from a combination of ingredients, which includes brewers'/nutritional yeast. It has a smoky, cheesy taste and a mild heat. Perfect for hot dogs, breakfast sandwiches, and burgers. Heat: 4/10. Flavour: 5/5.
*(5) Fumisterie - Black Stout Coffee. The colour of this one is a little off-putting; it's so dark brown it looks black, which reminds me a bit of the inky stuff from X-Files. It's definitely not the most attractive-looking sauce in this kit. In terms of texture, it is quite thick and sticky (it was a bit hard to spread evenly over my wing), but the flavour makes up for what it lacks in visual appeal. Smoky barbecue notes with a hint of sweetness make this hot sauce perfect for your barbecued meats. Heat: 3/10. Flavour: 4/5.
*(6) Royal Bourbon. This was another one of my favourites! This bourbon (Jim Beam!) hot sauce has the perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and spicy. I was feeling the heat at this point, and my nose had started to run. Heat: 5.5/10. Flavour: 5/5.
*(7) Vertigo - Lime Coriander. This sauce is like a verde sauce you'd traditionally add to tacos or other Mexican delights. It has a great blend of freshness in taste and a spicy zing to finish. It builds as it goes,s and the heat lingers on the tongue. Heat: 6.5/10. Flavour: 4/5.
*(8) Bollywood - Curry Coconut. This is definitely La Pimenterie's version of DA BOMB. It punches you in the face and leaves you feeling spiced out. This was where I started to panic because I could feel the burn of this one after I swallowed it. Although it packs a mean punch in terms of heat, it also tastes great: The creamy coconut curry flavour is on point, and I would add this to curries or curry-inspired dishes. Heat: 10/10. Flavour: 5/5.
*(9) Le Fruit Defendu ("The Forbidden Fruit"). After the Bollywood sauce, I was very scared to try #9 in this box. However, it packed decidedly less heat than the previous installment did. (Or, perhaps, I was still reeling from the punch of the last sauce.) This was one of my least favourites; it is spicy for the sake of being spicy and does not have much flavour. It's kind of like the spicier version of number one. The spice builds after you swallow but does not linger as much as Bollywood's did. Heat: 8/10. Flavour: 3/5.
*(10) Post Mortem. I clearly have no taste buds left at this point. I feel a little high from the spice, and I am definitely sweating. I can also, a bit alarmingly, feel the hot sauces moving through my digestive tract. However, this was the final sauce, and I am not one to back down from a challenge! Post Mortem has a slow-building spiciness and burns all it touches; I could feel it around my lips and had to go and wash my face afterwards. Flavour wasn't the greatest; there wasn't much there at all. More spicy for the sake of spicy than anything else. This and #9 will be my go-to sauces when I want to spice up dinner without adding much/subtracting much from the overall flavour. Heat: 8/10. Flavour: 3/5.
All in all, this was such a fun challenge. My partner and I had a great time, and felt like we were creating a bit of a date night with our dinner, as this was a very interactive meal and we were talking about the tastes and experiences the entire time. The flavours of all of the sauces (except for the last two) are fantastic and can be added to a variety of foods, and the spice level ranges from mild to punch-you-in-the-throat spicy. I will be gifting this to my fellow spice lovers at Christmas and initiating my spice noob friends with it at our next games night. Thank you, La Pimenterie, for an exquisite range of sauces and a very fun challenge!
P.S. The toilet and I were very well acquainted the next morning, but my partner, somehow, inexplicably, did not have any issues.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 18, 2025This kit provided us with plenty of challenge and interesting flavours. While some were better than others, it also provided me with the insight that I needed to see what types of sauces I preferred on my food. This kit offers full size bottles, which is excellen in my opinion.
Great stuff!
- Reviewed in Canada on June 5, 2025Comes in a well made box that is great presentation. The box has rules of the "game" you can follow or not. Each hot sauce has a labeled heat level. The bottles themselves aren't small either, you're getting normal La Pimenterie sized bottles which typically go for $13-$15 each while this set is $11 each so you're saving some money. Though you would only save money if you enjoy all the flavours, otherwise this is a great way to get familiar with their flavours to see which heat/taste you like
The taste themselves are all very good. Even the ones I don't enjoy are passable. I've heard good things about La Pimenterie hot sauce and they don't really disappoint, lots of flavour. The heat level varies, I say most people should be able to handle 1-3. 4-6 for if you want a bit more, and anything higher will be liked by hot sauce lovers. 9-10 are strong enough that you only need a few drops, I don't find it as spicy as Da Bomb but at that level you just add as much drops as you need.
Overall this is a great starter set that is good value to test out a bunch of flavours and heat to find your ideal ones. The presentation makes it a great gift for hotsauce lovers
- Reviewed in Canada on June 2, 2025We are a family/clan of red chillies eaters. We have placed the eye catching box on a table near the dining table. Everyone visiting our home gets to see this box and the word "Challenge" prominently and attractively displayed on top of the box. We ask our guests to start at the lowest heat level. Everyone has said that the first level has sugar in it. I believe that the second also has some. Some have gone up to level 6. We are waiting for those who we know chew green chillies like candy, one after the other till the plate is empty. I have reached level 5 with my daily omelet, and am happy there.
Update, June 6, 2025:
Festive event. 6/12 adult guests chose to play. All started at level 7, five of us went step by step to 10, the max level. One lady wanted to rinse her mouth, drink, or eat something for quite some time after level 10. I tried level 10, half a teaspoon equivalent but did not take much to get rid of the fire in mouth. Two men were willing to bet against each other, a teaspoon neat, each. I intervened (the fun killer), lest they were running around rinsing their mouths.
Conclusion:
All ten levels are manageable. Fun experience watching each other take turns. Lots of laughter. Memorable event.
