Very happy with this purchase! I love that The Hobbit set and Lord of The Rings set have the same cover art/theme to them making them a wonderful collection! I've never seen the extended versions except for "Battle of the Five Armies" so I was pretty excited to get this set and see everything I missed. I have them on DVD but when I heard about the 4K release, I knew I had to buy this! The 4K quality is absolutely fantastic! The colors are vibrant and the details are so crisp and clear. Must have a 4K tv, 4K blu ray player and 4K connector cord to get the best experience! I love that the discs are color coded. This is a 6 disc set. Unexpected Journey (theatrical and extended discs) are red. Desolation of Smaug discs are green and Battle of the Five Armies discs are black. This is the perfect set and so happy to have them! Just sad that there are no "special features" included. Which I found out after are being released at a later date.

    This accompanies the lord of the ring boxset perfectly. I did receive a torn outer sleeve on my boxset and amazon replaced it no problems, also one of the disc's had a read error during playback (desolation of smaug extended edition) but with the replacement zero problems so if any discs don't work be sure to replace!

    First of all, two HD discs were duplicates of each other. And a third one took forever--and I do mean forever--to load, and then the image would freeze multiple times. The DVD player is a brand new Sony Blu Ray HD model, and it has played other HD discs and ordinary Blu Ray discs just fine. Whatever process they used to make these discs was defective. It's such a shame--you want to see one of your favorite movies in Blu Ray high definition--and you get sent defective discs.
