Do you believe in fate?
Wow, what an interesting premise for a novel. I was hooked from the moment I read the description for this new novel from master author, Liane Moriarty. If you were suddenly told your cause of death, and age which you would die, how would you react? Would you be angry, terrified, or maybe elated and at peace? Would you change how you live your life? Maybe you would become obsessed in your attempts to avoid the prediction, maybe you would carry on as though nothing happened. Part of this depends on your views regarding fate, as well as your level of belief in the veracity of the individual who told you. This novel explains what happens after a plane full of individuals are all given their cause of death and age of death, including the children, and even a baby. A choice number of them become the POVs for this novel, giving the reader an inside glimpse at their reactions, and how their lives look pre and post prediction. The main POV however, is that of the presumed "psychic" who was in a bit of a trance when she made those predictions. We begin to understand her life before that fateful flight, and why she ultimately did what she did. Incredibly engrossing I enjoyed every page of this novel and simply couldn't wait to find out what would happen to each and every character. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada and Netgalley

    I found some thought-provoking moments about time and fate/destiny in the story. I loved becoming more and more invested in “The Death Lady’s” story as it unfolded and, despising predictability, I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. The only reason I am not giving the book a 5 is that I struggled a bit to keep track of the characters and it was too difficult to re-trace individual storylines on the Kindle. Overall, a very satisfying read!

    Liane Moriarty is currently my favorite author, bar none. Every time she surprises me. I wouldn't say every book is better than the other because I like them all so much, the stories are so unique.
    So on THIS book, I started reading and it took me a while to get into the story, because it isn't the story of one character, there are several and they are completely unrelated. Little bits of their personalities are revealed at times, and you start to care about them and then you KNOW something horrible will happen. There's a "buildup" to a terrible situation and you go "nononono" because you don't want that the thing you know - or think you know - is going to happen, well, happening. It's an emotional roller-coaster. I felt terrible and relieved several times, and also terrible and sad, too.
    A great read, a dive into human nature, as always.

    Liane Moriarty's books are genre defying - I think she is in a league of her own. They are deceptively lightly, beautifully written - immersing you into a world and characters so deftly described, you don't notice how good her writing is.

    Here One Moment is more in the vein of What Alice Forgot than her more recent (and more conventional) novels like Big Little Lies. Is everything in life predetermined, or can we alter the path of our own and others' lives? You will care what happens to every single character.

    The story is riveting. Told from several POVs based on creepy unsolicited predictions delivered by a stranger on a plane trip, it highlights the importance of our individual daily lives, personal perceptions, the choices we make, the people we love, and the complexity of our understanding of ourselves and our interactions with others.
    Ms. Moriarty is adept at weaving a captivating study of human emotion and behavior.
    I will be buying this book for my children and my best friends.
    HERE ONE MOMENT is not only a well written work of fiction, but it invites the reader to reflect on worthwhile life lessons we can apply to our own lives before it is too late.
