This review evaluates the “Clear Double-Sided Heavy Duty Adhesive Foam Tape” made by ONE UMBRELLA.

There is not much to this item out of the box: It comes as one (1) twenty-foot roll of ½” clear waterproof foam tape.

First impressions: The tape is quite shapeable to follow contours and the adhesive is very sticky-tacky. It was advertised as waterproof and indoor/outdoor compatible; made using VHB foam adhesive by 3M.

I also evaluated the exact same tape by the same company except it was grey instead of clear. I used it to complete a “Honey-Do” job on my list to try this product out. My wife wanted new handles on her 125-gallon aquarium glass lids. An application that has to be strong and resistant to ponded or splashed water. So to compare this tape to the clear version, I glued a hard plastic spice lid beside the metal handle. You can see that it is the same except see-through clear.

Overall I am impressed with the product; The product worked like a charm, the end result held so well you could be hit with a hammer and they couldn’t be removed. The pictures included speak for themselves! Happy Wife = Happy Life!

Cost-effectiveness and value: At a current price of $15.99, I feel that this tape is of good value considering you get 20 feet of it. You can do a lot of jobs for the money.

Even though it's called double-sided tape, this is more like a clear foam. It is not as flat as Scotch tape and is about 1 mm thick. This is not necessarily a bad thing -- in fact, it makes it easier to adhere two surfaces together but if you did not want any gap between the two surfaces then you will need to get a double-sided tape that is completely flat and not this one.

The initial adherence of the foam is not extremely strong which makes it easier to reposition it but which also means that right off the bat it cannot hold a heavy load. I think it is supposed to cure and strengthen after a few days but I cannot confirm this yet and will update this review to report back. One thing that I found fairly annoying is that the red protective film on the tape is fairly hard to peel off. When just using my nails, it took some work to lift it off the foam and using a sharp craft knife would probably be a better way to do it. The sides of the roll of foam are also rather tacky so if left in the open air would probably get be covered in dust after a short while. I would recommend storing the roll in a resealable plastic bag.

Overall, these two-sided foam are practical to have at hand for a multitude of purposes at home but its initial adherence could be stronger and its uncollaborative protective film while only a mild annoyance is still an annoyance nonetheless.
