The instructions that come with this heater state the following:
This heater will work fine as a "primary" heater up to 100sf
This heater will work fine as a "secondary" heater in rooms up to 400sf.
It is important to take dimensions of the room your trying to heat into consideration, before purchase to ensure your happy with its performance.
Noise measured with a DB meter.
40 to 44 DB on low
55 to 58 DB on high
Even blowing on high and the bathroom being right beside the bedroom, doesn't bother sleep. That being said, I actually like white noise and find it helpful for falling asleep.
Some helpful tips.
"Unless you unplug the unit, it wont turn off".
TRUE
However, unplugging the unit will wreck it. The heater is designed to keep running, even after it has reached desired temp to help cool the coils, prevent premature wear and prevent damage to the plastic casing. Once it has cooled down, the unit turns itself off.
"The unit runs even after it cools"
TRUE
The unit is designed to circulate air in an attempt to not have to heat it. It pulls heat from the upper portion of the room and pushes it to the floor. It will turn off after.
If you find your heater is constantly on beyond these 2 conditions, chances are, you are pushing the unit way past what it was designed to do. Also, mounting it under a window will trick the unit into thinking it's much cooler in the room than it actually is. Keep that in mind when choosing a mounting location.
Safety:
I have left this unit plugged in for a few months now. I have checked the cord when it was much cooler outside and the unit running for longer times. It has felt warm but never hot. The casing as well has never been hot to the touch. Do to its built in self cooling smart programming, I have no concerns about the material used for its construction.
Conclusion:
Being in a house that is 100% electric heat and has no baseboard or central furnace heating system means you have to be somewhat creative in your heating solutions. The oil filled heaters work great for larger areas but can take a while to get to temp. They are also much larger and need more room to operate safely. For a bathroom, this heater was perfect. Takes up very little room and is easy to set and forget. Very happy with its performance thus far.
