About the Warning: This is a potential problem with any large DVD collection purchase, especially older shows. The image shown is not the actual product, but an example of what to look out for. As a buyer, you don't want to get the collection, let it sit on a shelf for 3 months, and then find out a few DVDs are bad.
Visual inspections might be good enough, but the best way to make sure everything is working correctly is to test each disk.
This was the second set of the original Hawaii Five-0 series that I've purchased. For the first collection I bought, every DVD showed this problem. It is either due to the age of the disk, exposure to heat, exposure to chemicals, layer seperation, or something else. The bottom line is that the disk will not read, and no amount of cleaning will correct the issue.
For this collection, there were a few that showed the beginnings of the same problem, but only 1 disk (Season 5, Disk 1) was bad. And only episode #3 on that disk failed to read. Unfortunately, the way returns work, I have to send the entire boxed set back and get a complete new set as a replacement. Of course, when I get the replacement, I'll now have to check each disk again. Although I only really need Season 5, Disk 1 to work, in order to have digital backups of the entire series.
This is not a complaint about the seller, but is a common problem that buyers need to be aware of.
Update after getting replacement disks: All DVDs seem to be working OK. I was able to complete my digital archive. However, a few of the new disks showed beginings of the problem, but they all worked OK.
