The Ultimate Catch Phrase game unit is designed so that players can toss it instead of passing it putting the "catch" back into Catch Phrase! Players try to get teammates to guess the word or phrase that appears on the screen by describing it in just about any possible way but they have to do it fast as the timer counts down! If a teammate can't guess the word within 15 seconds, the unit will beep and it's time to toss it to another team member who'll get a chance at a new word. Don't get caught holding the unit when the buzzer goes off or your team loses the round and the other team gets the point. The Ultimate Catch Phrase electronic party game features 5,000 words never seen in previous Catch Phrase games. Note the instructions were in the packaging. I kept them but since I played before I didn’t read them. We played several times before figuring out we can change subjects etc. it’s not hard but the instructions help. The game itself is great for families and groups. While one person or group (a) tries to explain to their partner/s the shown phrase without saying it and the other team (b) also gets one guess if (a) doesn’t get it before the timer goes. That keeps everyone paying attention. It’s standard plastic, not too heavy which I like and seems to be fine after lots of handling. Younger kids might join a team but guessing phrases might be difficult and boring. I dunno.

    Love this game. My daughter and friends loved to play this hand off game when we went camping. This year, we bought the game so that the grandson can play this game when camping. There is lots of laughter when you hand off the game to the next player when you’ve given the answer before the buzzer goes off. If the buzzer goes off before the game is handed over, you lose. Quick, fun game to make lots of memory with.

    I had played the game at a friends and loved it so I ordered it when I got home. But I didn’t realize that the game I played was the first generation of it and this game was different. I didn’t like the format of this game… it automatically changes the topic every 15 seconds. That is barely time to get started!!!! I preferred the old version where you could decide on your own the amount of time devoted to figuring it out.

    I really like this product as opposed to the original game piece that used to have cards to change out. This is battery operated and you can change categories flawlessly and it even keeps score! I am reluctant as my aunt has this game as well and hers is starting to have glitches when we play ( it skips categories and jumps ahead before it should) she has had hers over a year and mine is fairly new.she changes the batteries so we know it's a machine issue. I am giving this a solid review score as mine has yet to give me any issues, but I do worry about the longevity of this game.
