Fantastic 8 movies set of harry potter movies in one box what a great gift .

I've been a fan of the Harry Potter books since the first volume and have also enjoyed the movies that are based on the books. Since I have the complete set of books I thought I should also have the complete set of films but I wasn't interested in paying a fortune for a set of discs that included all of those extras that seem to be part of so many other sets of films. When amazon.ca offered the set at a huge discount for one day only, I jumped at the chance.

I've now seen all of the films and must say that they are good but not as good as the books, of course. The quality of the videos is excellent as is the sound and since all of each film is included in this set, this is the essential Harry Potter collection for those who simply want the films and don't really care about the interviews and all of the other bits. Having said that, I should note that there are some additional items included in each video disc but since all I wanted was the movies I didn't bother accessing those.

It's refreshing to see each movie in its entirety after we've all seen the edited versions on TV. A lot is left out of those that's interesting and worthwhile and this complete set is just what it says it is, the complete films with no parts edited out. Unfortunately there are also some previews of other films on some of the later discs so that it's necessary to fast forward through those to get to the parts that we paid for. Too bad those weren't relegated to an appendix but, I guess today it's all about advertising.

I think the Harry Potter series is one of the best set of books of recent times, appealing to children and adults alike. They're a genuine tour de force and the movies are almost as good. If this set is available at a reduced price, it becomes an even better buy and I recommend it without reservation. I give this set a full 5 stars out of 5.

I originally wanted the full Hogwarts set but at the time I didn't want to break the bank.
This is a great set for those who just want the movies with minimal special features. It is a no non-sense addition to anyone's growing blu-ray collection. If you are looking for extra content, extended special features and fancy packaging this set is not for you.

    Appearance - 10/10
I thought it looked great off the package. The discs are all in one big blue ray case within the cardboard jacket. It's simple enough and it looks great in my blu ray shelf.

    Contents - 9/10
A bit bare for my liking but like I said, this is a no non-sense collection. It is literally all 8 movies in 8 discs. The nice touch is that every disc has the artwork for that movie except for "The Deathly Hallows Pt 1" which is odd but it's not that big of a deal.

I don't really need to say anything about the movie. I would recommend this set to anyone looking to add just the movies or for those who don't have the space to store limited and fancy editions of the movie.

This complete 8 film set on Blu-Ray goes on sale occasionally on 鶹 for about $40, making the cost of each film about $5. Technically speaking, there were 7 books and 7 films but the last book was made into 2 films. Each book/story shows another "year at school" for the child characters who themselves grow up throughout the series to become adult wizards.

The Blu-Rays look and sound excellent and is the way to own these films. For the value, I feel it is a 5-star collection. The Blu-Rays are also well-housed in a hard plastic book style case and there is also an outer cardboard cover which briefly explains the plot of each film.

You can spend more money buying the films individually in packages that include a lot more bonus materials, but I don't feel it's worth the extra money. This set also includes hours of bonus material, just not as much. Fans of the books may want it all though.

To be honest, I must admit that I've not read the books, so I cannot comment on how accurately the films adapt the books to the big screen. Also, I did not watch any of these movies until all the films were out on DVD to rent and then I rented and watched them all in order. It's best to watch these back to back, so you can see how details are dealt with from one film to the next. I bought this set recently and I'm re-watching the films in order and enjoying them again.

However, they are not all equally enjoyable. The first 2-3 are my favourites, as I like the on-screen chemistry between the trio of friends and there is more humour. As later films focus more on Potter, and a comical love interest sub-plot, I feel they are missing "something" and the pacing drags at times. It could also be that the producer's of the films change and the plot is becoming far more serious and less fun. That is why I deducted 1 star from my rating.

The films were all well done in terms of how they were filmed, special effects, etc. They are all big budget films and the shortest film is just over 2 hours. The films are well cast and it's great all the actors remained for all 8 films, which took about 12 years to make. That meant that some of the more established adult actors returned for very tiny roles in successive films, which rarely happens. It's a shame Richard Harris died in 2002 and had to be replaced as Dumbledorf, as I much preferred him in the role. It's also very neat to see the child actors grow up and yet maintain their characters so well/smoothly/evenly. TV actors can do this easily but it seldom works with film actors, who usually get years off between films. It helps that these films were done in close succession. It's also neat that none of the child actors grew up to be "messed up" fodder for the tabloids, and hopefully they will continue with successful acting careers. The child actors really did exceptional jobs, and it helps that they used a British cast and not a Hollywood one.

A warning to parents: I remember when these films and the books came out there were negative comments from Catholic church goers about the wizardry being something of a popularization of Satanism, and I didn't understand what all the fuss was about. After all, many children's tales contains witches and wizards. However these films, especially from the 3rd film onward are definitely too dark for children. The way some of the evils spells are depicted can really be scary (werewolves, demonic possession, etc.) and are not suitable for pre-teens, especially without adult supervision. The film makers' intention was that the young viewing audience would themselves age and therefore be more suitably mature to handle the darkness of each successive film.

If you want to buy all of Harry Potter's movies in a single package, and you don't care much for extra features, look no further. At less than $7.00 per Blu-ray, this set gives you great value for your money.

I wasn't a fan of the Harry Potter saga when the movies first came out. In fact, it was not until the 3rd movie, Prisoner of Azkaban, that I decided to give in to the hype, and watch the first movie. I was hooked, maybe not to a hardcore level that would compel me to buy all the books and collector’s editions, but just enough to want to have all the movies in high definition.

This collection has all 8 movies for $54.99 (at the time of writing). When you realize that you get all the movies for just under $7.00 each, the decision becomes fairly easy. The box is very compact for such a (big) collection. It has roughly the thickness of two regular sized single disc DVD/Blu-ray boxes put together.

Do keep in mind that this collection includes the movie discs ONLY. You do not get any extra discs with any features, though the movie discs do have a few extra features here and there.

Another thing to note is that not all the movies have the same languages. For example, the first movies (first four if I remember correctly) have 10 to 15 different language audio tracks available, but the rest have only English, Spanish, French and Portuguese (again, IF I remember correctly).

It seems to me that these collections are some sort of clearance of individual film box sets. For the sake of making a point, suppose that each movie is first individually sold in box sets that include the movie disc, and an additional disc with special features. Now suppose that you take only the movie discs from all 8 individual box sets and put them all together in a single box set. This is what you are getting.

The reason I think this might be the case, is that the last 3 movie discs have extra labels printed on them, which read either “Disc 1 Movie” or “The Movie”. These labels are usually printed on discs that are part of a box set that includes other discs with additional features, as a guide to tell them apart. I am including a photo so you can see what I mean.

Do keep in mind that this does not at all affect the quality or experience of the movies. I just point it out because you might notice the lack of consistency in the printed labels of the discs.

    To wrap things up:

    PROS
    - Great value for money, at less than $7.00 per movie at the time of writing.
    - Consistent video and audio quality. Great image and great sound in all the movies.
    - Several extra features included in all the discs.
    - All 8 movies neatly stored in a compact case.

    CONS
    - There are no discs dedicated to extra features. Most people will probably not care about this, but if having a lot of extra features is important to you, then you might want to check out another collection.
    - The disc case feels cheap, especially the disc holders. They feel as if they would break easily.
    - Inconsistent language audio track selection. Not all movies contain the same amount of available language tracks.

    NEUTRAL
    - No extra artwork included.
