- Reviewed in Canada on February 17, 2025Verified PurchaseGreat for digging in hard ground
- Reviewed in Canada on March 20, 2024As a long time user of a full sized and heavy pix axe, I understand the usefulness of these tools. I garden on land that has shale and wayyy too much of it. This rock breaks apart into sheets and squared-off shapes enabling it to knit back together even after being disturbed. Add that to our freeze and thaw chicles and even once cleared areas seemingly grow these rocks again. Not being able to initially dig most holes efficiently with a hand trowel or shovel, the pick axe is my tool of choice which saves me time and wear and shock on my arm muscles and joints. So am quite excited for this smaller pick axe and its ability to the same job but in smaller areas. Now that my gardens are many years in the ground this will allow me to use it without some of the fears of damaging neighbouring plants while in use. Looking for perfect, I would have this pick axe be about twice the weight as weight is a factor in ease of use of these tools. So where the weight doesn’t exist, more exertion is required to help the pick penetrate the hard ground or dig out the rocks. Unfortunately this weight information isn’t given in the product description. This is the only reason I down graded this product the one star

- Reviewed in Canada on March 21, 2024The feel of the handle is really nice. It's a little hard to define tactile things like that, but it makes you want to pick it up and use it. I tested it on some ice, it worked well to chip away at that, I expect it to work great on breaking up tough soil once spring advances far enough for that to be a consideration.
Attachment of the axe head to the handle seems solid so far, time will tell how well that lasts. One minor thing is that the steel has some minor imperfections, I suspect these could be sites where corrosion could start to occur, again time will tell how "stainless" it really is.
Regardless though, if well cared for I think this could be a tool that will last for many years.
