The block itself is light, and I did a mod that another buyer suggested, which was to drill 6 holes through the sponge to aid dust pickup, and flipped it over regularly to keep both sides clear.
I also held part of the hose in my other hand which took that weight off my sanding hand, making it nearly light as a feather to use up on my ceiling.
It really peels off the drywall compound. I sanded 3 /4 of our large loft's second coat of drywall and only now think a new sponge is in order.
This is just much better than the vacuum sander that uses mesh screens, NO GRID LINES!!

I used this to sand a small drywall patch (1 sq foot in total). The goal was to eliminate the horrible dust that gets blown around the house when doing this in the winter. Well, it worked fine. Dust was mostly captured by the shop vac which was stationed outside (hose routed through a mostly-closed window in the cold winter). But dust is still retained in the sponge and falls to the floor. So only about 75% of the dust is vacuumed. Good, not great. But what do you expect for this price?

This sander was amazing! I am a diy person with a bathroom that needed a lot of sheet rock repairs, including skim coating. I purchased this months ago, but just recently got around to this particular project. I expected this sander to reduce the dust, but I was amazed at how much dust it was able to eliminate by sanding with this device. There wasn't any dust residue on the floor or trim while using this. I will have a lot of sanding to do on wood as well, and I will certainly be using this. You can buy more abrasive sponges for it for other projects, just make sure they are the same thickness as the sponge that comes with it. Some of the sanding sponges I have are thinner. If you have any sanding projects to do inside your home, I highly recommend this sanding tool. The money is well worth it.
