Great speaker, great seller. Fast shipping and great price. The speaker looks great on the wall. The only con is I get a popping noise when I increase the sound. Online it's states it could be directly related to the Bluetooth connectivity or an electric surge? I keep playing around with it, hopefully I can fix it, if not, I'll have to listen with less volume. I'm sure I won't be listening to music super loud anyway. Great device. I wanted a wireless speaker that was unique, this is it.

The HW-LS60D/ZC Music Frame (ASIN B0CWPWNM25) from SAMSUNG comes complete with everything necessary to mount on a wall or stand on a desk.

Out of the box, visually, this exudes quality - fit and finish are superb, though I would be remiss if I didn't point out that it is made entirely of plastic. It has 5 small LEDs located center, below the picture to indicate pairing, volume changes, mute, Alexa activity etc. and the front is removeable which allows you to swap out the picture with one of the two included, or one of your own.

With respect to connectivity, the device supports both WIFI and Bluetooth and is compatible with Alexa and Google. The only physical controls on the device are located on the lower right side of the Frame and they consist of mute, volume up/down and a mode button. During installation (requires Samsung SmartThings app - app can be used to customize sound afterwards e.g. EQ et al) you'll be asked if you wish to connect to �鶹�� (built-in Alexa/Echo) or Google (built-in Chromecast). Note: I have not tested it with Google as I prefer the �鶹�� ecosystem.

Installation was a snap, with one exception; establishing a connecting to �鶹�� took over 45 minutes. Whenever I'd reach the point (on my Samsung S22 Ultra) where it asked if I'd like to connect to �鶹��, after saying yes, the screen would flash and be I'd looped back to the same prompt - over and over and ... over. Fed up, I decided to try my tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab S8), it connected flawlessly on the first try allowing me to enable Alexa on the Music Frame.

I should point out that if you run into problems, holding the +/- volume simultaneously for five seconds will reset the device.

With respect to the quality of sound, no need to worry about mounting it on a wall, as all sound fires forward (along the edges of the white matte/picture). I'm sure most will be impressed, especially those that have had little else to compare it against.

There was plenty of bass (which will surprise most folks given its size), and the highs were reasonable. I found music at normal levels was ... missing something, and that something was mid-range. Compared to my Echo Studio ($300 cheaper than the Music Frame's current asking price), this pales in comparison -- the Studio is the winner hands-down -- doubly so when it came to Dolby Atmos content. That said, turning the volume up higher did improve the experience. I should also point out that, outside of using built-in Alexa/Echo to stream Spotify et al, or searching for Bluetooth each time, the Music Frame has a neat feature that allows one to touch a compatible phone to the Frame (like NFC contactless pay) to stream the phone's audio.

With respect to using it as an Echo, one can customize settings in the �鶹�� Alexa app. The Music Frame (as an Echo) functioned as expected, though it did struggle to resume Spotify on several occasions. It would occasionally get stuck in listening mode after I issued a "resume Spotify" command. The only way to break its focus was to give it a different command e.g. "Alexa, what time is it?" Also noteworthy, although this speaker supports �鶹��/Alexa, unlike all other Echo speakers, it cannot be grouped for a whole home/room experience. If you enjoy playing Spotify et al across multiple speakers simultaneously, you're going to be disappointed - this one fly solo. Further, you cannot change the wake word to anything other than Alexa (even as of November 06, 2024).

All the above aside, I think Samsung has a missed opportunity here. Instead of allowing one to insert a single paper photo, they should have used the space for a screen, thus allowing one to use it as a digital picture frame (much like their Frame TV) or multimedia device. Perhaps they were just testing the waters with this first release, preferring not to go all with additional manufacturing costs on an unproven product, or perhaps it was because the frame is square and that would require a custom screen? I guess the next iteration will reveal all.

Is this a great device? No. Is it a bad device, also no. Does it look good? Heck yes. It's a device that has much potential, a device that's better than some of the current smart speakers on offer (and not as good as others). Do I recommend this? At the current (as of this review) asking price of $498, it's a hard recommend since there are cheaper speakers that sound much better at almost half the cost. If coin and overall sound quality isn't a concern, you want to hide a speaker (though keep in mind you'll still see that power cable running up your wall) or you're hooked on looks, then by all means, have at it.

At this stage, I'm comfortable with a 3.75 rating, though since that's not possible given �鶹��'s scale, I'll bump it to a 4.

The build quality is top-notch. It’s solid, very good looking, and has impressive heft. A little too heavy, to be honest. With the stand attached it sits very securely on a table, shelf, or cabinet top with no slipping.

The sound from this speaker is kind of magical. Despite most of the front being artwork, the sound is not at all muffled and is in fact full spectrum and decently flat and balanced. There’s plenty of bass and lots of volume.

Listening to background music at low or moderate levels is perfect for this speaker. However, when I turn the volume up a bit louder than normal listening the sound starts to buzz. This is especially so with bass-heavy music like EDM. The two rear-firing woofers make large excursions when driven with lots of bass.

Both Airplay and Chromecast work perfectly for me, once I configured it in the app. I can cast from Youtube Music on my iPad or Pixel phone. The simple instruction sheet is out of date. It says that Wifi is only for Samsung TV use but in fact you need it on and configured for Airplay and Chromecast use.

I wish there was a single Quick Start card with large easy graphics. The “simple instructions” sheet is hidden inside a small box that I only came across while randomly unpacking all the bits whose purpose I didn’t understand.

You must install the SmartThings app simply to configure this frame, and that’s rather overkill. The app provides some control, like an equalizer, but it’s trivial as it only offers bass and treble control.

The touch sensitive control buttons on the right rear side work but I avoid using them and I wouldn’t want to need to depend on them. They are virtually impossible to see. I have found they are too easy to accidentally operate when shifting or moving the frame around. While reaching around from the front to feel for the buttons it’s too easy to turn the thing off rather than to adjust the volume. A poor design choice.

The art frame is very fiddle to open up to exchange the art work. The little corner plastic push-pull thingies can fall out and roll under furniture. But I like that they supply a number of sticky corners to mount custom artwork, like paintings or photographic prints.
