The trouble with this item is that is is designed for a 2 inch post. It will not fit the gate post at Home Depot, which is 1 1/2 inch square. I finally designed a 1/2 inch spacer and made this work

If you are looking for a simple single sided (meaning does not open from other side) gate lock then this will work just fine for you.
I needed to lock my gate when I am home and have the option to just lock it without needing a key to unlock so this is very versatile.
Installing on plastic gate was easy, however, I could not use the corner frame on both the latch and locking mechanism as there was not enough of a gap on between the gate and the post so keep that in mind.
It was still sturdy and I was able to slam the gate without worrying about the latch becoming loose. This kit on wood or metal will be much more solid of an install than on vinyl.
I love the fact it comes with two keys and different mounting brackets and plenty of extra screws which makes this an amazing value.
I wish it allowed me to open from the other side (outside in my case) with the key so I could lock from both sides however there are products for that and this does the job very well.
Just remember not to lock yourself out when leaving this in auto-latch mode.

This latch seems to be well-built and was easy to install. I have had trouble with the lock not turning easily, not sure if it's an issue with the key or the lock mechanism. The other problem is that the latch would slide up and close when the door swung shut at first, but after a few weeks it would just slam into the latch and not slide up and close on it's own. The bar is still lined up correctly, so it seems to be an issue with the internal tension of the latch.
