edit: one of the four drives has now failed after frequent but normal usage in the few months since i wrote this review; it clicks repeatedly and isn't recognized. the other three are still working for now.

the below text is no longer accurate and i am a lot more hesitant to recommend this or buy more in future. however, i don't think the listing is misleading in any way. it's an expected risk with heavily used drives like these.

original review: i and two friends bought a total of four of these; all have around 30,000 hours of use but no problems or signs of failure (bad sectors etc). undoubtedly won't last as long as a new drive, but they are in good shape and half the price, so it's a very fair deal imo.

Lasted 1 year and then died. Was using it for a NAS hard drive for photo storage, lucky to have images backed up somewhere else. Thought enterprise HDD would last longer - how wrong I was.

I've bought three of these drives over the past few months. They are used and are discounted significantly. Performance is as expected, but unfortunately, one drive failed after the return period. Even with the failed drive, the total cost is less than half the price of comparable new drives.

I use these drives in a RAID configuration, so when one failed, I just pulled it out and replaced it. No big deal, but I wouldn't trust these drives for sole storage.

Still a 4-star rating for the excellent value.

they do get warm with constant use
none of these are serious issues and can be mitigated with smart install, design, purchasing options

tips- make sure your enclosure is sturdy to handle the vibration, or placed on a thick, rubber surface to isolate vibrations, and you have decent cooling/venting

If it's going in your computer case.. there shouldn't be any vibration issues if you install correctly.

The good: Arrived in great time and packaged beautifully for transporting hard drives. Sealed in new antistatic packaging (which surprised me and made me think "new old stock"). Came with a SATA power adapter to correct for server vs desktop pin out AND instructions for disabling pins if you CAN'T use the adapter for some reason.
Installed -fine
Full test suite -fine
SMART errors -zero
Read/Write speeds of ~200MBps (that's bytes) via onboard SATA3, closer to 250 with an LSI HBA.
The bad: nearly 4 years of spin time and 2-3 ptb written/read. Manufactured 6 years ago (so only �鶹�� warranty).

These drives are nearing "clapped out" condition. At only half the price of new SATA drives of similar capacity/quality, I should have opted for SAS drives that sell for 2/3 the price with similar wear.

Advice: pick up a used HBA with SAS cables and bandwidth if you want used enterprise drives in your system. The reduced price of HDDs will more than make up for the $30 CAD ($15-$20 USD) you spend on a used HBA.
I will be replacing these with brand new drives as soon as possible, and moving these to cold backup.
