Keeps you occupied when you're bored.
This kit is great. It was my first airplane kit actually and it kept me occupied why I was bored. I am really not delicate so right out of the box I broke something and I kept messing up with the tiny little balsa piece that are overly fragile and the CA glue that kept sticking to my finger, but otherwise it was good. Covering with tissue (it's like the thinnest paper towel in the world) was a real pain. What I don't like with this kit is all the parts that aren't wood. I hate the covering tissue, the wheels looks terrible, the propeller is garbage, the engine cowl doesn't fit perfectly and the worst thing I have ever seen is the ''decals'' included in the box. Maybe i was doing something wrong with them, but just looking at them they would break into 999 tiny pieces and were a real pain to put on. Otherwise the plane is nice. I ordered new ''tundra'' wheels for cheap and it looks pretty nice from afar.

Guillows have been making balsa kits for decades. I think I made my last one about 35 years ago so decided to try my hand at it again. There are pros and some minor cons. First of all I never intended to cover or fly the plane. Just wanted a skeleton to hang from the ceiling. The laser-cut parts are clean cut and easily removed. The instructions are good but a bit lacking at points. The kit went together well using Elmer's wood glue. The next one I do will use a faster acting CA type glue because unless you hold or somehow brace the parts in position until the glue dries they may move. The plastic parts cut out easily. It is a good kit and I recommend it highly to someone who has a bit of knowledge about balsa building. I do not see it in the hands of a youngster however.
The cons - well the balsa is 90% I/16th inch size. Very fragile. If you are holding a part in place and put a bit too much pressure on it, it will snap. I have had to brace many broken parts. The small thickness is a problem but it is the normal size for a plane this small. Just expect it to snap especially the spars. The instructions as mentioned are in places vague but as my plane won't fly I used a bit of artistic liberty at times.
Suggest you use a very sharp hobby knife. Put in a new blade. I also used tweezers and a steel ruler to cut the few pieces that needed to be. T-pins are great for hold parts in place on the diagram when assembling but can be too big to secure the 1/16" balsa.
I liked the kit and will build another. As mentioned I have built Guillows models from way back and do not know if any other company exists that build balsa kits. Buy it and enjoy it but expect a few snags as you go along.
I did not rate this 5 stars as I very seldom rate anything that high. It could deserve it however.

Since childhood and over many years, I had built a number of Guillow airplane kits.
But, compared to those , the difference Laser Cutting makes is almost unbelievable.
One has to try it only once to be convinced.

A little too expansive. The quality of the wood is good and laser-cutting improves the product a lot over the older kits. Recent (CAD) design => good.

More challenging and more rewarding than plastic model. Covering took some swearing to get good at.
