- Reviewed in Canada on December 29, 2024Verified PurchaseBattery no issue, torque was surprisingly good
Drill 17 4’ deep 8” holes with this. Struggled with rocks but so does a gas one. If you have green works battery already its a good price for saving some digging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy surprised!
Verified PurchaseSo I already have several tools in the Green works 80V series. And instead of renting an auger all the time, I thought I'd give this one a shot. Picked up a nice 10" auger bit from a local store and used it with this auger. In regular dirt with roots this thing performed like a champ. Hit one tree root over 2" in diameter and had to shift over. But it dug 7 holes in less than a minute each.
Now on to the real test at my property in the forest. All the ground is basically rock and a little bit of dirt in between. I was very skeptical, but once again blown away! As before, this thing dug a full depth hole in less than a minute. It was kicking out 5"+ rocks just like dirt! And I was able to run this thing by myself. Even my family was beyond surprised!
The reverse setting is helpful with big tree root snags, but normally unnecessary.
All in all, I highly recommend this auger and everything else in the Greenworks 80V family of tools!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps me make large planting holes for trees and veggies in clay soil
Verified PurchaseAnother great tool from Green works and I have most of them. Believe it or not I can use the 80 V battery from this auger to ride a big fat tire mountain bike they make. But anyway this auger is great and I found an 8 inch but that worked for it. They do sell another version where it includes the auger for more money if you know exactly what size you need. As you can see from this photograph, I was able to plan dozens of plants and tough clay soil that would’ve taken a long time or I would’ve just required me to plant with a much smaller hole. This particular garden had not been used for years so the soil was very compact paired with a bigger hole than the plants need, I could fill out with soil amendments and compost so that the roots have a lot more room to spread, and eventually they will break up the clay around them as they get stronger and more mature. I also enjoy planting bare root trees and small/medium seedlings, and this is invaluable for that purpose around my rural property. I really like this company and I use something of theirs almost every day, from the tire pump to the lights to the chainsaws to the mower and this auger is a true game changer for all the planting idea. It is very heavy keep in mind with a large otter so make sure you pick the lightest one if you’re not strong enough to lift something that weighs about 30 pounds.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is advertised and what was received were pretty far off
Verified PurchaseI received this item and found what is advertised and what was received were pretty far off. According to the 鶹 description, this product is a 58cc equivalent with 81 ft pounds of torque. The delivered item’s box/manual state it is a 43cc equivalent with 59 ft pounds of torque. 鶹s description also states it is supposed to include (1) adaptor, (1) 18” extension shaft, but they were not included. According to the accompanying owners manual these items are not included and sold separately
According to the “Customer questions & answers” this Greenworks product is only available through 鶹, a statement I believe to be true as I could find no information on it anywhere other than the 鶹 listing. Even Greenworks website does not list any information on this product.
Unfortunately this review isn’t about the performance of the post whole digger, as it was returned the next day. I love cordless tools but I find them to be less robust than their gas/corded counterparts even if the manufacturer claims them to be equal. The drop from a 59cc equivalent to a 43cc equivalent is too great and I feared it would be too underpowered to meet my needs.
I don’t believe this to be a deliberate case of bait and switch. I’ve had other dealings with Greenworks and management just isn’t on the ball. I believe what I received was either a replacement model or maybe even a second tool in this lineup, but Greenworks is unexplainably quiet about this product and management is unmotivated to correct bad information. I suspect it will take a long time to get the information to match the product being sold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for planting flowers
Verified PurchaseVery impressed with the power to drive the Auger and appreciated the reverse switch to back out the Auger for the newly made hole. However, the Auger purchased needed some customization in order to be attached to the tool and make use of the provided Spring Clamps. I drilled out the screw hole on one side of the Auger and used a bushing on the other side. Now it is totally awesome and works perfectly. I am very happy with the Tool. I drilled 15 holes for Plants in very short order and the tool used very little of the 80v battery supply.
