Discover the highs and lows of Rede Globo in the crossing of 1985 to 1998, a historical period in which Brazil underwent major changes in the politics, economics and the social, economic and cultural profile of viewers.
A Globo: Competcorrência is the second volume of the A Globo trilogy by journalist Ernesto Rodrigues, which makes a deep and independent immersion behind the scenes of the largest television broadcaster in Brazil.
This volume explores the impact of the Globe's coverage during historic moments such as the illness and death of Tancredo Neves, the Sarney government, and the election of Collor. The work reveals the controversies that surrounded the broadcaster's posture, especially during the mandates of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and highlights his leadership in covering events such as the scourge of the Aids, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Soviet Union, the first Gulf War, and the Diana phenomenon.
Here, Ernesto Rodrigues does not leave, of course, to follow the evolution of teledramaturgy, bringing the successes of Vale Alto, Tieta and O King of Cattle , in addition to the bold miniseries Grande Sertão: Veredas and Golden Years . Also the impact of the presenters Xuxa and Angélica, who, not without controversy, changed the concepts of the Globe's children's programming; the rise of humor with Cassette & Planet and Gets Down; the tetra dream realized in football, and the trajectory of glory and tragedy of Ayrton Senna.
The work also examines the commercial growth of the broadcaster and its difficulties in the international market, such as the failure in Italy with Telemontecarlo, and the fierce competition with the rise of Silvio Santos and Rede Record, who forced the Globo to adapt their programming to maintain leadership.
The trilogy: | The work divides the history of the Globe into three periods and volumes: Hegemony , the first, covers the events that occurred between 1965 and 1984 and reconstitutes the origins, the growth and consolidation of the leadership and the presence of the broadcasters in the daily Brazilian daily life; Competition, the second, rescues the highs and lows of the Globe bo na travessia From 1985 to 1998, a historical period in which Brazil underwent major changes in politics, economics and the social, economic, and cultural profile of viewers; and Metamorphosis, the third volume, covers the period between the turn of the century and the beginning of the 2020s, when the Globe was forced to promote changes profundas em todos their areas, from technology to content, to keep leadership in a landscape of radical transformations imposed by the internet, social media and new information and entertainment platforms.
