Kit arrived with all the required components, no assembly instructions but it did have a schematic drawing. Assembly is quite straightforward, only tricky part is the one surface mount IC. I hint for those who find SMT components challenging is after you've fluxed the board is to hold the component in place with a thin strip of electrical tape. Solder in one, remove the tape then finish flowing solder on all the other lead/contacts.

I did make a couple modifications. First was instead of the supplied speaker to speaker connector I replaced it with a M/F USB cable. No particular reason to use that style of cable other than it makes it easy if I want to use one or both speakers. Second modification was to drill holes in the back panel of the case to allow for all the cables to pass through to the board. The supplied hole is IMO much too small.

One common complaint about these kits is the case being difficult to assemble. I've come up with the following steps and it works well:
-with the protective film still on dry fit everything and then tape in place
-once together mark the pieces so you'll know how the pieces match up, I write numbers 1-4 in the corners of the top piece, letters a-d in the bottom piece and then the corresponding number & letter on the side pieces
-once ready for final assembly peel off the inside protective film (leave the outer film on)
-use a small piece of blu-tack to hold the little nuts in place while you add each bolt and then gently snug each connection tight
-after its fully assembled with the project inside the case then remove all the outer protective film (you may have to back off the bolts slightly to get to the film under them)

Once completed they look cool in their plastic housing with the LED light effects but don't expect them to sound anywhere close to good. They're tinny and scratchy....which based on the components thats exactly how you should expect them to sound.

The manual had lots of info and color pics, but very little actual instruction. There are 2 PC boards and while most components are the easy to solder through hole type, there are 2 ICs that are SMD. To get an idea of the difficulty, imagine an IC that is 4mm in length and width with 8 contacts that have to be held in place and soldered using a fine tip iron. This takes skill, experience and patience. If I had known about the SMD integrated circuits I would not have purchased.

Added new speaker wires to make speaker installing a lot easier also it kick more. Make sure you do a good job sodling icu chip in as I made the mistake and blew a speaker cause of it, most important part of project! Use flux for icu! Not to sure turns on but process of elminstion I guess, ended up buyijg a third pair which all work. Overall worth the $25 some bucks! Thanks gikfun!

As a hobbyist it's a lot of fun to be had for the money. As others mentioned, it is not 100% through hole.
There are SMD chips you need to solder, so get yourselves a flux pen. I did one with and one without and it definitely helps for the novice. The sound quality though, you kind of get what you pay for if not slightly less. there's decent high/mid range but really lacks bass (no surprise considering their size). it's more of a product for those who like making this but don't expect it to replace your existing speakers.

Decent product for a good price. Only concern was with the length of the speaker wires, need to be 1/2 inch longer. I was able to use the supplied wire but it was a difficult process! Hooked up the unit to the ear phone jack and USB port on my laptop, played a few tunes though it, very nice sound quality! Good starter practice for SMT parts as the two power amps are surface mount. Overall, highly recommend.

Easy to assemble the circuit but you will loose the pleasure with the box. First you need to figure which side goes which other , then you should do some assembly BEFORE connecting the cables. Should have been indicated in the paper that comes with this kit but it was not .
Then the ultimate challenge is to get those tiny screws fit on the sides .
