Ghost Radio Mass Market Paperback – Feb. 23 2010
鶹
In this chilling first novel by filmmaker, composer, and graphic novelist Leopoldo Gout, a ghost story call-in program opens a doorway into the paranormal.
“Ghost Radio reminded me of early Stephen King. The story sticks with you long after you’ve finished the final page.” —James Patterson
From the cramped bowels of a dimly lit radio station, Ghost Radio is beamed onto the airwaves. More than a call-in show to tell scary stories about vampires and poltergeists, Ghost Radio is a sanctuary for those sleepless denizens of the night, lost halfway between this world and the next.
Joaquin, the hip, melancholy host, sits deep in a fog of cigarette smoke, fielding calls from believers and detractors alike. He is joined in the booth by his darkly beautiful girlfriend, Alondra, and his engineer, Watts. Soon what began as an underground cult sensation is primed to break out to mainstream audiences. When a huge radio conglomerate offers to syndicate the show and Ghost Radio becomes a national hit with an expanding legion of hardcore fans, neither Joaquin, Alondra, nor Watts is remotely prepared for what is about to happen.
When Joaquin notices a curious and troubling phenomenon, he is inexplicably drawn further and further into the terrifying stories he solicits on the radio. As he slowly loses control over his reality and finds himself unable to distinguish between the real world and the world populated by the nightmares on Ghost Radio, he’s forced to confront his past and his own mortality in order to repair the crumbling wall between the living and the dead.

“A deliciously creepy yarn.” — Booklist
From the Back Cover
Emanating from the cramped bowels of a dimly lit station—the demented dreamchild of hip, melancholy host Joaquin—Ghost Radio is a sanctuary for sleepless denizens of the night lost halfway between this world and the next. A call-in talk show that invites listeners to share scary stories about vampires and poltergeists, it is a bona fide cult phenomenon. Joined in the booth by his darkly beautiful girlfriend, Alondra, and his devoted engineer, Watt, Joaquin masks his skepticism, encouraging callers to withhold nothing as they spin nightmares and grotesqueries they swear are true.
But the wall separating reality from delusion—the living from the dead—is crumbling because Ghost Radio is going national, picked up for syndication by a huge conglomerate. And no one—not Joaquin, Alondra, or Watt—is even remotely prepared for what's coming next . . .

About the author

Leopoldo Gout is a filmmaker, writer, and visual artist from Mexico City. He studied contemporary art at Central Saint Martins in London and has shown his sculpture and paintings in galleries and museums around the world. Leopoldo lives in NYC with his wife and two children.
GENIUS – THE GAME is the first in a series of books about child prodigies from diverse backgrounds who come together to change their stars and the world. The launch pad for their revolution is a competition called the Game. There, they compete with 200 other prodigies in a contest that will not only test their brains but also challenge their ideals.
Genius explores the outer reaches of technology, the explosive power of young minds, and the bonds of family. It is filled with big ideas and even bigger emotions. But more than just a book, the Genius series is a movement – it is Leopoldo’s call to the youth of the world: liberate your minds and you can liberate the planet.
As a film and television producer, Gout frequently partners with bestselling novelist James Patterson on projects for both the big and small screen.
Together with Patterson, Leopoldo executive produced the hit series ZOO (CBS Television and based on Patterson’s 2012 thriller), produced the forthcoming MIDDLE SCHOOL: THE WORST YEARS OF MY LIFE film (Participant Media/CBS Films), and is developing MAXIMUM RIDE (an international feature film co-production shooting in late 2016) based on Patterson’s blockbuster YA book series.
Under his own banner, Gout wrote, produced, and directed the NBC animated film LITTLE SPIRIT (starring Danny DeVito & Lucy Liu). It aired as a one-hour primetime special on NBC in 2007. He also produced his brother Everardo Gout’s directorial debut, DAYS OF GRACE. The film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2011 and was released in the U.S. in 2015 to rave reviews. DAYS OF GRACE won more than 18 international awards and was nominated for 15 Arieles (the Mexican Academy Awards).
Leopoldo is currently in pre-production on MOLLY’S GAME, a film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin and starring Jessica Chastain. He is producing alongside Mark Gordon and Amy Pascal. He also created and co-wrote SPYMASTERS, a historical TV series, with British showrunner Jake Michie for OddLot Entertainment and Slingshot Global Media. Simon Kinberg (DEADPOOL, the X-MEN film franchise, SHERLOCK HOLMES) is executive producing.
In the UK, Leopoldo has teamed with Idris Elba for RAVI, a one-hour UK drama premiering in 2017. He is also developing GET MILLIE BACK with Man Booker Prize winner Marlon James and Britain’s Channel 4.
Leopoldo’s first novel, 2008’s GHOST RADIO (Harper Collins) is being adapted as a television series with OddLot Entertainment and Blumhouse Productions.

- Reviewed in Canada on August 19, 2023Verified PurchaseCool concept, the story developed much differently than expected. I was disappointed by the stylistic ticks used in place of a discernible plot. I had to read a Mack Bolan book to cleanse the mental palate afterward.

3.0 out of 5 stars The book was too full of itself
Verified PurchaseI won’t lie I tried to enjoy this book, tried to understand where it was going and though I did for the most part, it lost me more than once and the pretentiousness got me so upset lol.
I kept going because I loved the eeriness and thoroughly enjoyed the scary a** tales from the guests in the ghost radio. But the stuff happening with Gabriel and Joaquin was not as intriguing.
I didn’t like Gabriel he sounded pretentious af and annoying as heck, even for a teen/20s he was annoying. Joaquin was a doormat and wished he had seen Gabriel for what he was. It was hard to believe these two would essentially open a portal to some Toltec stuff and actually understand what was going on.
Although I loved Pedro Pascal narrating the audio version it did not completely save the book. In my opinion it’s a weird one try to keep track of everything if you can. 3.7/10 ⭐️

2.0 out of 5 stars Three by Three
Verified PurchaseI REALLY wanted this to come through the static to be loud and clear but the signal would get strong, only weakening the more I tuned the dial.
I read the 鶹 blurb and this story peaked my interest, but I found myself just never fully getting enveloped in the story just wanting SOMETHING to hold my attention. it was like when you hit seek on Terrestrial Radio and a good song comes in faintly, and the more you tune, other stations keep coming in too strong, to the point you start to wonder "Did I hear the song really, or did my desire too hear it, keep me turning the dial?"
Where I wanted the story to go betraying me by where it does go
