- Reviewed in Canada on November 6, 2022Verified PurchaseHe likes to do the same expression as the boy of the book when telling the story on his own little made up language and I find it so cute. Giving 4 stars only because they dont have it on cardboard. Other than that it's a lovely book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Beginners to Portuguese!
Verified PurchaseI’ve been studying Rio de Janeiro accented Brazilian Portuguese on and off for years. I’m not Portuguese or Brazilian or etc. but I do plan to raise my kids on this language. Multilingualism is useful for jobs these days. I also think it’s always great to expand your child’s world access double the amount of people they can converse with. More friend opportunities more marriage opportunities more learning from other’s opportunities. How can anyone say no to that???
This book is the easiest Portuguese book you will find in terms of word count and difficulty. Trust me I’ve bought all the easy ones but none come close to this. I can say with confidence the translation is authentic Brazilian Portuguese as confirmed by native speakers.
Reasons it’s important to read Portuguese when learning to speak it:
1. You learn how words are actually used. Just because there is an exact same meaning equivalent to an English word doesn’t mean it’s used for the same phrazes. Some things can’t be taught through Rosetta Stone, duolingo, courses, etc. some things are taught by experience.
2. Reading out loud helps perfect your accent and your confidence in speaking the language. Try doing so with listeners!
3. It keeps your skills on use preventing you from forgetting all you’ve learned.
4. You learn new words along the way when you meet a new word and pull out the dictionary. I guarantee you’re more likely to remember it after that.
P.s. I love the black cat! And the kids behavior reminds me of me wit my large breed dog 😂 he can reach everything and he knows it.

Verified PurchaseUma delícia poder reviver tradições de infância com minha filha que mora tão longe da língua e cultura brasileira. Livro simples porém atraente, deixou as crianças empolgadas brincando de "O gato comeu" por vários dias.. uma farra!
