We left the other unit in the car we sold to a family member so I told him I would get him another Garmin to have in the car for him to use. I got this because I didn't like how mapping apps on my iPhone were feeding all the data about where I was going and how I was driving to the services (Google farms it all, Apple some of it) -- and while there are a few opensource mapping apps that do not do this, they are not as feature rich as I'd like. So, got this which doesn't send my travel info anywhere and I can disable the log of my trips on the device. I like the smaller size (used to have one with an 7" screen) that is less obtrusive on my dashboard. The only downside is that the USB charging/data connection cable is very short and not well shielded.

I never had a chance to use this so I can't offer an opinion on the functions. My reason for only 4 stars is the included cable. It was very short making it impossible for me to use it in my suv. I was going to use a suction mount on the passenger side window, my daughter would be managing it, as the dash material isn't smooth and I didn't want to use a sticky mount. I couldn't afford to get it hardwired thus the final straw for me. Oh well, we ended up using online maps for our trip and it worked out for us.

I owned Garmin GPS units when they first came out, twenty years ago. I was an early adopter, used it for work and personal travel. When I met my wife in the summer of 2008, she had a Tom-Tom GPS, she preferer my Garmin, so I got her one. When we replaced our cars they had built in GPS. Last summer my car was totaled and I had to replace it. I bought a newer version of the same car, but it didn't have a GPS.I didn't think that I'd miss it, but I did. Recently I went on an animal rescue mission, I bought this new Garmin for the trip. 5,300 miles, fourteen states, the Garmin never left me down. My only regret is that I didn't purchase one with a larger screen. But that is my own fault. I highly recommend.
