    I have already purchased each individual Blu Ray season, but decided i would love to have the 4K box set. It is absolutely worth the money. The box set is gorgeous, each season cover is beautiful, & the discs look exceptional on a 4K, or regular HD TV. If you are a fan of the show or the books & want to revisit this fantastic world from time to time, this is the definitive way to do so.

    As for a review of the show, it is one of the greatest pieces of television ever produced. This show is about the tragic nature of mankind, which really could be said about all Grimdark Fantasy. This isnt comfort fiction, this is a realistic picture on the psychological nature of mankind. Its not always pretty, as reality is not always fair, or as glorious as most fantasy or fiction would have you believe, but it paints a much more grounded & harsh picture of what its like to be human, but within this amazing medieval fantasy world.

    Many like to focus on their disappointment for the ending, however i am not one of them. If anything, this show has become more about the journey than the destination, and it is one hell of a journey. I have already watched the show 2 times since it ended & it holds up wonderfully. The last two seasons are the weakest, but still have many redeemable qualities & scenes. Either way, i could never be so spiteful as to hate something i love simply because of a disappointing ending. I have seen too many stories end horribly in my lifetime for me to let that bother me. It is what it is. Instead i choose to focus on what i do like, & there is a lot to like here.

    Game Of Thrones set a new standard for television. If you have yet to see it, i urge you to at least give it a try. Everything you need to know about human nature, for better or worse, is within these 8 seasons. It has become one of the most meaningful TV shows to many & could be to you as well.

    This has to be one of the most absorbent series I have watched. It will take you on an emotional journey of highs and lows challenging your moral and ethical beliefs, it calls on our understanding of conscious boundaries and tolerances and to what we consider the norms of human behavior. Game of Thrones demands us to examine ourselves and to rethink and test what is, or could be, to how we live our personal lives today. This is a story that can be put in contrast to what is very real in another time and place and to how society exacts these standards today.
    Game of Thrones is a story of powerful love, family, and faith in humanity and the consequences of our actions or inactions. It is an epic series that has dragons, witches, sorcerers, demons and devils and monsters that live in our mind. We see the struggles of emotional bondage to our beliefs and the ability to move outside these boundaries to conquer our fears. The story teaches us the simple facts in life, such as no good deed goes unpunished, and that evil overpowers good. It also gives us some respite in that we see that there is a balance to evil and good and that there will never be a truly just society, that humans have emotional thresholds to what they can tolerate. This epic trip teaches us that we are all vulnerable, that we all have to be on guard, that we have to protect basic values and weed out the heretics and the deceivers of the truth.
    Game of Thrones is a series which I highly recommend, even if you are not a fan of medieval history in which the story is cast. It will challenge you in ways you never considered, it takes us on a journey to the other side. Take the time to think, weigh and question your beliefs, it could change you.

    Really liked the DVD's and they played perfectly. I removed 1 star because of the packaging which is terrible. They come in 2 flimsy cases which arrived cracked and the dividers loose and falling apart. They put 2 discs overlapping on each page which cases the top one to fall out and the bottom one to make it very hard to remove. Most 10 year old's could package better than this and with the high cost of this item they could put in a better sturdier box. Fortunatly they arrived without any scratches or damage so it could have been worse. The plastic case can be repaired with glue gun. The only other thing is that all 38 DVD's are almost identical - black with the same very small writing - you have to be careful you don't get them out of order. I would make each season's discs a different color.

    Brand new disks in an unopened box.

    I read in the comments that some people had problems with the disks (stlling, skipping, etc.). I made a point a video recording the unboxing/unpacking of this set; it took me 1/2 hour to do so. I went through all disks looking for apparent damage(s) and found some with what seemed to be finger prints. Wiped them out properly,very carefully and all worked OK. These disks (blu-ray, 4K) are very sensitive to dust, so the littlest, smallest spek of dust will cause the problems mentioned before.

    The only thing I don't like about the way the menus of these disks were designed, if you stop and turn of the player (without removing the disk from the unit), when you turn it back on, it doesn't pick from where you left. You have to satrt over again (the disk, the episode).

    Game of Thrones Blu-ray set

    I purchased this set to replace my Season 1-6 and Season 7 and Season 8 DVD sets. In what follows please accept my apology if I have recalled something incorrectly. I found the set excellent and worth the price of admission, but I’d like to describe some “interesting” features of the set.

    Realize that it is a huge set that includes 33 discs. When my set arrived I found that at least one-third (yes, about a dozen) of the discs were loose in their cases. I don’t know if this occurrence is a comment on the less secure Blu-ray cases (to me, they seem less so than DVD cases), a poor packaging for shipping job, or unusually rough handling during shipping. One corner of the slipcase cover was slightly “accordioned” but not very noticeable. All discs looked fine on inspection and all episodes (I viewed them all) plus all features (that I have viewed this far) have played without error.

    Obviously the video and audio quality far exceeds the DVD set that I have and that alone (plus having all eight seasons in one enclosed package) was worth the purchase. But read on, if you wish…

    The weirwood tree animation at boot up of each disc is cute though it sometimes doesn’t get a chance to actually animate each time (your mileage may vary depending on your equipment.) But the momentary static “languages available” image at the start of each disc seems a bit unnecessary and maybe even a little irritating, but perhaps some may need it.

    Drop down “house banner” menus are neat but they are translucent and so is the text on them so they are not easy to read over the moving video montage that is presented behind them. Also, not a big deal, but they retract after 60 seconds if not acted upon. Of course, you can open a banner again, but don’t be surprised if it disappears after you return from grabbing refreshment.

    All the original DVD extra bonus features provided are present along with several new features. Most are indeed “behind the scenes” video features, but some are text and still animation images, some are voiced-over by the characters (not sure these were provided by the actors or not) and some are just text you walk through and read. Nice extras but not as good as the bonus video features provided.

    The extra 3-disc bonus set is excellent with a two-part “Game of Thrones Reunion” feature, Anatomy of a Scene” (for Seasons 4,5,6,7), “Behind the Scenes” (for Seasons 1, 2, 4, 5), “Inside the Visual Effects” (for Seasons 1-7) and “Season 7 Deleted Scenes”. There are similar features scattered throughout the sets and I have not viewed them all…yet.

    The “Conquest & Rebellion” feature on disc 3 of the Bonus Features set is long (ten chapters) and yet quite interesting, though consisting of slightly animation-enhanced high quality static images and character voice-overs. (Again, perhaps not done by the actors.) Note that once you select a chapter the history continues to play through the following chapters unless you interrupt it (that is, you can’t play “one and done”.) I found it useful to have subtitles on during the feature. It gives a fairly thorough overview of the 300-400 years of history before the Game of Thrones timeline began.

    Starting with Season 4 and after “Dolby Atmos” audio support is available, although I don’t have the equipment to determine the difference. But the enhanced audio is certainly available. The Bonus Features set does not support Dolby Atmos (who cares?)

    The ability to walk through the Episodes menu and select any episode from the entire season then be prompted to insert the correct disk if the selected episode is not on the current one is a nice little feature. It is not available on the Season 7 and 8 sets for some reason.

    I am sure you will enjoy this entire Blu-ray set of Game of Thrones!
