Great Product
We are renovating our bathroom and my Vintage Clawfoot Tub has to be moved to a Spa Room in the basement. In any event, I can't live without my tub so I ordered this to warm the water outside and it was so hot from being in the tub overnight that I had to put a lot of cold water in the tub to get it down to the correct temperature! This has at least made the inconvenience of losing my tub bearable!

    Works fine on 240V. The 240V there is important. I got this as a backup heater and generator test load, so I've only run it in a few gallons of water as a test, but I have no concerns with it. A few things I noticed:

    - It comes with an adapter to a regular US NEMA 5-15 outlet, but you don't want to use that. This will only be a 750W heater on 120V, based on simple physics. (1/2 the voltage means 1/2 the current for 1/4 the power.) If you don't have the outlet this needs go get a 1500W 120V heater.
    - It does seem to have an internal cutoff. I wouldn't trust that cutoff as run-dry protection, but in only a couple inches of water I noticed it seemed to be cutting in and out.
    - As this gets so hot it will need some deep water to cause good thermal convictions. In only a couple inches of water for testing I had to swirl the water around for it to be effective.
    - It doesn't have a built-in GFCI. You'll need one if your outlet isn't GFCI protected.
    - It was pulling it's rated power on 240V.

    The construction feels solid and the cord does not feel cheap. Do not let it run dry.

    This product will turn into a red molten rod if the pool accidentally runs dry. (Ours developed a leak and went dry in the middle of the night) It will melt it’s own plastic casing, then (if noticed and thrown over a rail to prevent it from touching anything flammable) will drop into a puddle of molten plastic that will ignite sopping wet grass. No alarm. No overheat protection. No temperature control. I am horrified by how close I came to burning my porch down and starting another forest fire in my own neighborhood. If I hadn’t woken up in the middle of the night, walked out on the patio, and noticed orange light AND the fire under my patio, well…

    There are safer options for a similar price. Just buy one of those.
