Product description
Diving into delirious realms of imagination, this second film of the Godzilla franchise’s 1980s resurgence showcased the towering beast for a new generation of fans. This time, Godzilla’s foe is one of the series’ most wondrously strange kaiju creations: Biollante—a mutant plant genetically engineered from the cells of a rose, a renegade scientist’s dead daughter, and Godzilla itself. With a wild plot encompassing spies, psychic children, and bonkers biotechnology—and some of the coolest special effects in the history of Japanese cinema—Godzilla vs. Biollante stands as a high point in the ever-evolving mythology of the King of the Monsters. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES • New 4K digital restoration, with 5.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack • One 4K UHD disc of the film and one Blu-ray with the film and special features • New audio commentary featuring film historian Samm Deighan, host of the podcast Eros + Massacre and coeditor of the book Revolution in 35mm • Making-of program from 1993 featuring director Kazuki Omori and special-effects director Koichi Kawakita, among others • Short documentary from 1993 about the Biollante and Super X2 vehicle concepts • Deleted special effects • TV spots and trailers • New English subtitle translation • PLUS: An essay by science-fiction and horror film expert Jim Cirronella

- Reviewed in Canada on March 22, 2025Verified PurchaseA under appreciated classic of the heisei era of films that has been unavailable for too long is finally out! Not only on blu-ray but 4k too! Beyond happy for that alone but also happy to see this movie getting the love it deserves. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a criterion release of the whole heisei era soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Godzilla Vs. Biollante 4K
Verified PurchaseGodzilla Vs Biollante has finally arrived in 4k via Criterion and I am thankful for it! I really wanted to watch this film and add it to my collection, but I didn’t want to pay the obscene prices from 3rd party sellers because the previous home video release is OP. I finally watched the movie yesterday, my first time. I really loved the monster design of Biollante and back story. Definitely more terrifying than Godzilla himself 🥹 I’m not used to Godzilla’s older look. I thought at first I was watching the English dub, because I heard English, I checked the subtitles and I turned them off by accident 🤦♂️ The film does have English speakers though, that involves around the plot. Overall it was enjoyable.
The 4k edition comes in a clear amaray case, 2 discs, one 4k the other Blu-ray. I didn’t check the language section, so I don’t know about an English dub, I can’t watch it in English anyway, just sounds weird to me imo. Considering I grew up watching Voltron and Power Rangers, both tokusatsu shows from Japan. Just doesn’t sound right to me. This edition also comes with a nice fold out poster.
Overall, I highly recommend this for any Godzilla, tokusatsu fan!
PS: I know that’s Godzilla -1 in the photo 😂 I don’t have a Godzilla from the movie, don’t think I’ll buy one, maybe of Biollante 🤔

4.0 out of 5 stars Good movie and crisp pic but pricey
Verified PurchaseUnfortunately none of the 4k releases ( Toho included ) has HDR. That being said it comes in really good and just make sure your settings on your 4k player are on BT.2020...not BT.709 and the colors will be forgotten about ( HDR ) after 5 mins. I messed up they had it for 40$ then 2 days later 50$...oh well. Wait imo til price drops a little.
